2024 Leeds City Council Election
The 2024 Leeds City Council election was held on Thursday 2 May 2024. It was held on the same day as the second West Yorkshire mayoral election and other local elections across the United Kingdom. The Labour Party maintained control of the council, with their seat count holding steady. For the third year in a row, the Conservative Party lost three seats, all to Labour; the party would additionally lose a seat in Pudsey two days after the election when Trish Smith, re-elected the previous year, resigned to sit as an independent. The Green Party also succeeded in taking three seats from Labour and saw the largest popular vote share increase out of any of the parties, though Labour in turn unseated Green group leader David Blackburn, preventing the Greens from equalling the Liberal Democrats as the third-largest group on the council. Leeds City Council
Leeds City Council is the local authority of the City of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England. It is a metropolitan district council, one of five in West Yorkshire and one of 36 in the metropolitan counties of England, and provides the majority of local government services in Leeds. It has the second-largest population of any council in the United Kingdom with approximately 800,000 inhabitants living within its area; only Birmingham City Council has more. 2011 Leeds City Council Election
The 2011 Leeds City Council election took place on Thursday 5 May 2011 to elect members of Leeds City Council in England. It was held on the same day as other local elections across the UK. As per the election cycle, one third of the council's seats were up for election. The councillors subsequently elected replaced those elected when their individual seats were previously contested in 2007. After forming a minority administration following the 2010 election, the Labour Party regained overall control of the council for the first time since the council had been in no overall control in 2004. Labour gained seven seats, including four from the Liberal Democrats. Alaric Hall
Alaric Hall (born 1979) is a British philologist who is an associate professor of English and director of the Institute for Medieval Studies at the University of Leeds. He has, since 2009, been the editor of the academic journal '' Leeds Studies in English'' and its successor ''Leeds Medieval Studies''. Biography Hall received his B.A. in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic from the University of Cambridge, his M.Phil. in Medieval Studies from the University of Glasgow, and his Ph.D. in English from the University of Glasgow. His Ph.D. thesis was on elves in Anglo-Saxon England. He has subsequently become an associate professor of English and director of the Institute for Medieval Studies at the University of Leeds. Hall researches and teaches the languages, cultures and history of Northwest Europe in the Middle Ages. He has written and edited several works on these subjects.
