The 2024 Herculis was the 38th edition of the annual outdoor track and field meeting in Monaco. Held on 12 July at Stade Louis II, it was the ninth leg of the 2024 Diamond League – the highest level international track and field circuit. Highlights At the meeting, Jessica Hull broke the 2000 metres world record, running 5:19.70. Quincy Hall broke the 44 second barrier in the 400 metres for the first time, running 43.80. Djamel Sedjati set a new Diamond League record in the 800 metres, running a personal best of 1:41.46. Jakob Ingebrigtsen broke the 3:27 barrier in the 1500 metres for the first time, running 3:26.73. Results Athletes competing in the Diamond League disciplines earned extra compensation and points which went towards qualifying for the 2024 Diamond League finals. Stade Louis II
The Stade Louis II () is a stadium located in the Fontvieille district of Monaco. It serves primarily as a venue for football, being the home of AS Monaco and the Monaco national football team. The stadium is most notable for its distinctive nine arches at the away end of the ground. The arena is also used for the Herculis, a track and field meet of the Diamond League. The stadium hosted the 1986 and 1998–2012 UEFA Super Cup matches. Due to Monaco's small size, the stadium is the only football and athletics stadium in the country. History The original Stade Louis II was opened in 1939 as the home of AS Monaco. The decision to build a new sports centre in Monaco dates back to 1979. Marco Arop
Marco Arop (born September 20, 1998) is a Canadian track and field athlete competing in the middle distance events. He currently holds a personal best of 1:43:26 in the 800 m. He is the 2022 World bronze medallist and the 2019 Pan American champion in that discipline. Arop represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Early life The Arop family fled Sudan during the civil war of the 1990s when Marco was a toddler. He spent his early years sharing an apartment in Egypt with his parents and three older brothers before they immigrated to Canada. Ben Pattison (born 15 December 2001) is a British middle-distance runner, who specializes in the 800 metres. Representing Great Britain in the 2023 World Athletics Championships, he won the bronze medal in the 800 metres, mirroring the medal he won for England at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Aaron Kemei Cheminingwa (born 21 June 1998) is a Kenyan middle distance runner. He won the gold medal at the 2023 African Games in the 800 metres. Career In the 2020s, he began to be coached by Alex Sang, whose other athletes include Kenyan 800 metres world champion Mary Moraa. He ran a 800 metres personal best time of 1:44.24 at the National Stadium, Nairobi on 6 March 2024.
