2024 German Masters
The 2024 German Masters (officially the 2024 BetVictor German Masters) is an upcoming professional snooker tournament that is scheduled to take place from 29 January to 4 February 2024 at the Tempodrom in Berlin, Germany. The 18th edition of the German Masters, first held in 1995 as the German Open, it will be the twelfth ranking event of the 2023–24 snooker season, following the World Grand Prix and preceding the Welsh Open. It will also be the seventh of the eight events in the European Series. Organised by the World Snooker Tour and sponsored by BetVictor, the event will be broadcast by Eurosport in Europe and by other broadcasters worldwide. The winner will receive £80,000 from a total prize fund of £427,000. Qualifying for the tournament took place from 18 to 22 December 2023 at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield. BetVictor is an online gambling company headquartered in Gibraltar. Founded in 1946, it offers products such as sports betting and online casino. The company is currently owned by Michael Tabor. History The company was founded by William Chandler (bookmaker), William Chandler who owned Walthamstow Stadium, a greyhound racing track in the London Borough of Waltham Forest in East London, which he opened in 1931. After the death of William Chandler in 1946, the bookmaking business passed to Victor Sr. and Jack. Victor Sr. died suddenly in 1974 and the business passed to Victor Jr., who at the time was working in the hotel industry in Spain. Ponds Forge
Ponds Forge International Sports Centre is a leisure complex in Sheffield, England, that contains an Olympic-sized swimming pool with seating for 2,600 spectators, family and children's pools (50 m Competition pool and 25 m diving pit), water slides and other sports facilities. History Ponds Forge was opened in 1991 as a venue for the Summer Universiade, which the city hosted that year. In the 1994 UK Sports Design Awards Ponds Forge was highly commended in the overall category, and for the use of steel in its construction it won the British Steel Award. Si Jiahui (; born 11 July 2002) is a Chinese professional snooker player. Career In May 2019, Si qualified for the 2019–20 and 2020–21 professional Main Tour as Q School, as the highest ranked player on the Q School ranking list who didn't reach the semi-finals of any of the three events. Si's first wins as a professional were a 4–0 victory over Soheil Vahedi in the first round and 4–1 against Stuart Bingham in second round of the 2019 English Open. Lyu Haotian
Lyu Haotian (, born 29 November 1997) is a snooker player from the People's Republic of China, notable for being one of the youngest snooker players to have played in professional tournaments, aged only 14. He reached the quarter-finals of the 2012 International Championship when he was aged 14, which is still the record in a ranking event. Career Early career Lyu Haotian began playing when he was 10 years' old and attracted the attention of local coach Pang Weiguo, himself a former professional player. Dominic Dale
Dominic Dale (born Christopher Dale on 29 December 1971) is a Welsh professional snooker player and snooker commentator and presenter for the BBC and Eurosport. Career Dale was born in Coventry, England. He won the Welsh Amateur Championship, which allowed him to compete at the World Amateur Championship in Bangkok. Dale reached the final, but lost 9–11 against Noppadon Noppachorn. Dale turned professional for the 1992–93 season. He has won two ranking tournaments in his career, the first of which – the Grand Prix in 1997 – he won while ranked number 54 in the world, beating then world number 2 John Higgins 9–6 in the final. Andres Petrov (born 15 October 1996) is an Estonian professional snooker player. He is the first professional snooker player from Estonia. Petrov turned professional at the start of the 2022/23 season after winning the EBSA European Snooker Championship. Early life and education Petrov was born in Tallinn. Jenson Kendrick
Jenson Kendrick (born 3 February 2001) is an English snooker player. He turned professional at the start of the 2022/2023 season. He earned a two-year tour card after defeating Haydon Pinhey 4–1 in the final round of the third 2022 Q School event. Career 2022/2023 season At the first ranking tournament, the Championship League, Kendrick played two draws, losing only one match and finishing 3rd in his round robin group. Liu Hongyu (snooker Player)
Liu Hongyu (; born 21 April 2004) is a Chinese snooker player. He won the APBSF Asia-Pacific Championship on 1 May 2023 to qualify for the World Snooker Tour, on a two-year card, starting from the 2023–24 snooker season. Early life Liu is from Taishan in the Guangdong province of China. Career At the 2022 Q School first event defeated Belgian Ben Mertens which included a break of 137. Oliver Brown (born 18 August 1994) in Dronfield, Derbyshire is an English snooker player. He will turn professional at the start of the 2022/2023 season. He earned a two-year tour card after winning the men's EBSA European Snooker Championship in October 2021. Ken Doherty
Ken Doherty (born 17 September 1969) is an Irish professional snooker player, commentator and radio presenter. As an amateur, Doherty won the Irish Amateur Championship twice, the World Under-21 Amateur Championship and the World Amateur Championship. Since turning professional in 1990, Doherty has won six ranking tournaments, including the 1997 World Snooker Championship in which he defeated Stephen Hendry, inflicting Hendry's first loss in a world final.
