2024 Democratic Party Presidential Primaries
Presidential primaries and caucuses are being organized by the Democratic Party to select the delegates to the 2024 Democratic National Convention, to determine the party's nominee for president in the 2024 United States presidential election. The elections will take place in all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, five U.S. territories, and Democrats Abroad, and will be held between February and June that year. While incumbent president Joe Biden has consistently stated that he plans to run for re-election and keep vice president Kamala Harris as his running mate, he has yet to officially declare his candidacy. Throughout 2022, as Biden was suffering from low approval ratings, there was speculation that he would not seek re-election, and some prominent Democrats have publicly urged Biden not to run. The Democratic Party of the United States is a big tent party composed of various factions. The liberal faction supports social liberalism that began with the New Deal in the 1930s and the Great Society in the 1960s. The moderate faction supports Third Way politics that includes center-left social policies and center-right fiscal policies. The progressive faction supports social democracy and left-wing populism in addition to social liberalism. The conservative faction supports right-wing policies, though it lost much of its influence by the 1990s. Democrats in Congress organize into caucuses based on political ideology. Jerome Michael Segal (born November 25, 1943) is an American philosopher, political activist, and perennial candidate who resides in Silver Spring, Maryland. He was the founder of the socialist Bread and Roses Party, which achieved ballot access in Maryland, and which Segal ran from 2018 to 2021. Segal is a research scholar at the University of Maryland, College Park, and the president of the Jewish Peace Lobby. He was a candidate in the Democratic Party primary in the 2018 United States Senate election in Maryland. Project Angel Food is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Los Angeles County which provides free meals for people too sick to shop and cook for themselves. Project Angel Food serves the majority of Los Angeles County with South Los Angeles and Metro Los Angeles being the two largest service areas for the organization.
