2024 Arizona Diamondbacks Season
The 2024 Arizona Diamondbacks season is the franchise's 27th season in Major League Baseball and their 27th season at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, as members of the National League West. They are managed by Torey Lovullo in his eighth season with the franchise. They enter the season as the defending National League champions and runner-ups of the World Series. They also opened this season with their best opening game in franchise history to date with a 16–1 blowout win at home over the Colorado Rockies. After starting the game with two runs in the first inning and a Rockies run in the second, the Diamondbacks responded with a new franchise record for runs in an inning with 14 runs scored in the bottom of the third inning. National League West
The National League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. This division was formed for the 1969 season when the National League expanded to 12 teams by adding the San Diego Padres and the Montreal Expos. For purpose of keeping a regular-season of 162 games, half of the teams were put into the new National League East, East Division and half into the new West Division. Within each division, the teams played 18 games each against their five division mates (90 games), and also 12 games against the teams in the opposite division (72 games), totaling 162 games. Geography Despite the geography, the owners of the Chicago Cubs insisted that their team be placed into the East Division along with the teams in New York City, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh. Also, the owners of the St. Louis Cardinals wanted that team to be in the same division with their natural rivals of the Cubs.
