2023–24 West Virginia Mountaineers Men's Basketball Team
The 2023–24 West Virginia Mountaineers men's basketball team represented West Virginia University during the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Mountaineers were coached by interim head coach Josh Eilert, and played their home games at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown, West Virginia as members of the Big 12 Conference. Following the dismissal of longtime head coach Bob Huggins in the offseason, the Mountaineers finished the season with a 9–23 record (4–14 in Big 12 play), their worst record since the 2001–02 season. Previous season The Mountaineers finished the 2022–23 season 19–15, 7–11 in Big 12 Play to finish in eighth place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament to Kansas. Josh Eilert
Josh Eilert (born December 2, 1980) is an American college basketball coach who was most recently an interim head coach at Utah. He previously served as the interim head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Big 12 Conference. Playing career Eilert started his playing career at Cloud County Community College where he earned academic All-America honors as a sophomore, where he also averaged six points and five rebounds. Eilert would then walk on to Kansas State. In his time with Kansas State, Eilert played in eight games, where he totalled two points, four rebounds, and a block. Coaching career Eilert started his coaching career at Kansas State where he was a graduate assistant for three years. Eilert then headed to West Virginia as the team's video coordinator where he served for seven years. He was then promoted to Director of Basketball Operations, a position he held for ten years. 2022–23 Maryland Terrapins Men's Basketball Team
The 2022–23 Maryland Terrapins men's basketball team represented the University of Maryland, College Park in the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They were led by first-year head coach Kevin Willard. They played their home games at Xfinity Center in College Park, Maryland, as members of the Big Ten Conference. With a new head coach and coming off their first losing season in 29 years, the bar for this group was quite low. However, thanks to a dominant 8–0 start, dominating wins over Miami and Saint Louis, and a home win against a ranked conference foe Illinois, they reached as high as #13 in the AP poll. Erik Stevenson (born April 28, 1999) is an American professional basketball player for the Capital City Go-Go of the NBA G League.
