2023–24 SDHL Season
The 2023–24 SDHL season is the seventeenth ice hockey season of the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL). The regular season began on 24 September 2023 and concluded on 20 February 2024. The playoffs began on 23 February 2024. Teams No SDHL teams were relegated at the end of the 2022–23 SDHL season due to Göteborg HC's mid-season withdrawal from the league in November 2022. The nine teams that completed the 2022–23 season returned for the 2023–24 season and were joined by Frölunda HC, the Nationella Damhockeyligan (NDHL) champions of the 2023 . The promotion of Frölunda HC brought the number of teams participating in the league back to ten. The season marks the first time in league history that fewer than sixty percent of active players are of Swedish nationality. Swedish Women's Hockey League
The Swedish Women's Hockey League ( sv, Svenska damhockeyligan), abbreviated SDHL, is the elite league for women's ice hockey in Sweden. It was established in 2007 as the by the Swedish Ice Hockey Association and was renamed prior to the 2016–17 SDHL season, 2016–17 season. The league has ten teams and employs a system of promotion and relegation with the Damettan. The unexpected withdrawal of Göteborg HC after playing only thirteen games of the 2022–23 season caused the number of teams to decrease to nine for the remainder of that season. ''Ilta-Sanomat'' () is one of Finland's two prominent tabloid size evening newspaper and the second largest paper in the country. Its counterpart and biggest rival is ''Iltalehti''. HV71
HV71 (), often referred to as just HV, is a Swedish professional ice hockey club based in Jönköping, playing in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), the first tier of Swedish ice hockey. The team played in the 2008–09 Champions Hockey League season, and also participates in the new Champions Hockey League tournament since the 2014–15 season. Between 2008 and 2013, HV also participated in the European Trophy tournament. With the exception of a one-year stint in the 2021–22 season in Sweden's second tier, HockeyAllsvenskan, where they won the promotion playoffs, the club has played continuously in the SHL since 1986. Sanni Hakala
Sanni Hakala (born 31 October 1997) is a Finnish retired ice hockey player and former member of the Finnish national team. She played more than seven seasons with HV71 in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL) after beginning her career in the Finnish Naisten SM-sarja (NSMs; renamed Naisten Liiga (NSML) in 2017) with JYP Jyväskylä and Oulun Kärpät. In 2023, Hakala suffered a serious injury during a SDHL match that left her paralyzed from the chest down, ending her career at the age of 26. Playing career As a youth player, Hakala played on boys' teams until she was 15, at which point she signed with JYP Jyväskylä in the Naisten SM-sarja, the top flight of Finnish women's hockey. Petra Nieminen
Petra Nieminen (born 4 May 1999) is a Finnish ice hockey player and alternate captain of the Finnish national team, currently playing in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL) with Luleå HF/MSSK. She is considered one of the top young talents in Finnish ice hockey. Playing career Nieminen's minor ice hockey career was played with the junior teams of Tappara in her hometown of Tampere. She played on boys' teams during her childhood and into her teen years, playing on the same youth team as future NHLer Patrik Laine. Beginning when she was 13, she intermittently played with the Tappara representative women's team in the Naisten Mestis and Naisten Suomi-sarja, the second-and third-tier women’s senior leagues in Finland. Hanna Olsson
Hanna Olsson (born 20 January 1999) is a Swedish ice hockey player and member of the Swedish national team, currently serving as captain of Frölunda HC in the Swedish Women's Hockey League (SDHL). She is considered one of the best young Swedish players and was already the seventeenth all-time scorer in SDHL history at 21 years of age. Playing career Olsson played for the Skärgårdens SK boys' teams until she was 16. From 2013 to 2015, she split her time between the team and various Riksserien (renamed SDHL in 2016) teams. She made her Riksserien debut in 2013 with HV71 Dam and picked up 3 points in 8 games during the 2012–13 season.
