2023–24 Georgia Southern Eagles Men's Basketball Team
The 2023–24 Georgia Southern Eagles men's basketball team represented Georgia Southern University in the 2023–24 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Eagles, led by first-year head coach Charlie Henry, played their home games at Hanner Fieldhouse in Statesboro, Georgia as members of the Sun Belt Conference. They finished the season 9–24, 8–10 in Sun Belt play to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place. As the No. 9 seed in the Sun Belt tournament, they defeated South Alabama in the second round, before losing to Appalachian State in the quarterfinals. Previous season The Eagles finished the 2022–23 season 17–16, 9–9 in Sun Belt play to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place. As the #7 seed in the Sun Belt tournament, they defeated Louisiana–Monroe in the second round, before losing to Louisiana in the quarterfinals. Charlie Henry (basketball, Born 1985)
Charlie Henry (born c. 1985) is an American basketball coach, currently the head coach for the Georgia Southern men's basketball team of the Sun Belt Conference. Playing career Henry played four years Madonna University in Michigan. Coaching career Henry's coaching career began at Romulus HS under Nate Oats for one season before becoming a graduate manager at Utah before joining the Indiana Pacers as a video coordinator. In 2013, he'd join Iowa State's coaching staff as director of player personnel before being promoted to assistant coach by head coach Fred Hoiberg. In July 2015, Henry followed Hoiberg to the NBA as he took the head coaching position with the Chicago Bulls. Henry would get his first head coaching experience in August 2017, when he was named the head coach of the Windy City Bulls in the NBA G-League. Brian Burg
Brian Adam Burg (born February 4, 1980) is an American basketball coach who most recently served as head coach of the Georgia Southern Eagles men's basketball team. Early life and education Burg is a native of Katy, Texas and is the son of Jim Burg. He played basketball at Cisco College before transferring to Mount Mercy University. When he was in college, Burg wrote letters to Bob Knight to try to find a coaching job. Burg graduated from Mount Mercy in 2003. He earned his master's degree from Lake Erie College in 2005. Coaching career Burg began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Lake Erie College from 2003 to 2005.
