2023 Wake Forest Demon Deacons Baseball Team
The 2023 Wake Forest Demon Deacons baseball team represented the Wake Forest University during the 2023 NCAA Division I baseball season. The Demon Deacons played their home games at David F. Couch Ballpark as a members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. They are led by head coach Tom Walter, in his 13th season at Wake. Previous season The 2022 team finished the season with a 41–19–1 record and a 15–14–1 record in ACC play. They went 1–1 in the ACC tournament and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, their first since 2017. The Demon Deacons were seeded second in the 2022 NCAA Division I baseball tournament#Stanford Super Regional, College Park Regional, where they went 1–2, beating LIU Sharks baseball, LIU, but losing to Maryland Terrapins baseball, Maryland and UConn Huskies baseball, UConn. Tom Walter
Tom Walter is an American college baseball coach. He has been the head coach of Wake Forest since the start of the 2010 season. Before coming to Wake Forest, Walter held head coaching positions at George Washington from 1997–2004 and New Orleans from 2005–2009. He was an assistant at George Washington from 1992–1994. Walter's career head coaching record, as of the end of the 2014 season, is 560–473. Outside NCAA baseball, Walter served as the assistant general manager of the minor league Greensboro Bats from 1995–1996. In collegiate summer baseball, Walter was the head coach of the Valley Baseball League's New Market Rebels in 1994 and the Cape Cod League's Cotuit Kettleers from 1997–1998. Catcher
Catcher is a Baseball positions, position in baseball and softball. When a Batter (baseball), batter takes their at bat, turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home plate, home) Umpire (baseball), umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to this primary duty, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket. Positioned behind home plate and facing toward the outfield, the catcher can see the whole field, and is therefore in the best position to direct and lead the other players in a defensive play. Franklin Pierce University is a private university in Rindge, New Hampshire. Nicholas Jeffrey Kurtz (born March 12, 2003) is an American professional baseball first baseman in the Oakland Athletics organization. Amateur career Kurtz played for the USA 12U National Team and won a gold medal at the 2015 World Cup. He attended Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Outfielder
An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases. As an outfielder, they normally play behind the six players located in the field. By convention, each of the nine defensive positions in baseball is numbered. The outfield positions are 7 (left field), 8 (center field) and 9 (right field). Brock Wilken
Brock Caleb Wilken (born June 17, 2002) is an American professional baseball third baseman in the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Career Wilken attended Bloomingdale High School located in Valrico, Florida. As a junior in 2019, he batted .468 with 12 home runs and 26 RBIs over 25 games. His senior season in 2020 was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but he still hit four home runs over eight games. After not being selected in the 2020 Major League Baseball draft, Wilken enrolled at Wake Forest University and instantly became their starting third baseman as a freshman in 2021. Over 47 starts, he slashed .279/.365/.617 with 17 home runs, a team-high 44 RBIs, and 41 runs scored. His 17 home runs were most by a Wake Forest freshman ever.
