2023 WDSF World Breaking Championship
The 2023 WDSF World Breaking Championship was held in Leuven, Belgium from September 22nd to September 24th, 2023. The gold medalist in each category qualified for the Breaking competition at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Breaking At The 2024 Summer Olympics
Breakdancing competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics ran from 9 to 10August at Place de la Concorde, marking the sport's official debut in the program and the first dancesport discipline to appear in Summer Olympic history. Following its successful debut at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, breaking was confirmed as one of the three additional sports, along with sport climbing and surfing, approved for Paris 2024. The competition saw a total of thirty-three breakers (sixteen b-boys and seventeen b-girls) staged in face-to-face single battles. IOC president Thomas Bach stated that breaking was added as part of an effort to draw more interest from young people in the Olympics. Philip Kim , also known as Phil Wizard is a Canadian breakdancer. Kim was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Early life Kim was born to Korean parents in Toronto, Canada, and now lives on the West Coast in Vancouver, British Columbia. His love of breaking began in 2009, when he saw the Now or Never (N.O.N.) crew performing street shows in downtown Vancouver. He briefly attended University to study Psychology before dropping out to pursue breaking full time. Career Kim won the gold medal at the 2022 WDSF World Breaking Championships in Seoul, South Korea, beating out more than 250 competitors for his world title. Dominika Banevič ( pl, Dominika Baniewicz; born 8 June 2007), also known as B-Girl Nicka, is a Lithuanian breakdancer of Polish ethnicity who won the 2023 European Championships title. , also known as Ayumi, is a Japanese Breakdancing, breakdancer. She participated at the 2022 World Games in the Dancesport at the 2022 World Games, dancesport competition, being awarded the bronze medal in the B-Girls event. Sya Dembélé (born 1 September 2007), also known mononymously as Syssy, is a French breakdancer. Early life and education Sya Dembélé was born on 1 September 2007 in Saint-Étienne, France. She is the daughter of professional artists from the African dance group Doni Doni. Her father was a griot in Burkina Faso, while her mother is a choreographer. Her family is passionate about dancing, and she started dancing at the age of eight. Her brother Damani also practises breakdancing, and she admired and emulated him.
