The 2023 Vancouver Whitecaps FC season is the club's twelfth season in Major League Soccer, the top division of soccer in the United States and Canada. Including previous iterations of the franchise, this was the 46th season of professional soccer being played in Vancouver under a variation of the "Whitecaps" name. Having won the 2022 Canadian Championship, the Whitecaps participated in the CONCACAF Champions League for the first time since the 2016–17 edition and third time overall. Vancouver Whitecaps Football Club is a Canadian professional soccer team based in Vancouver. They compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member club of the league's Western Conference. The MLS iteration of the club was established on March 18, 2009, and began play in 2011 as the 17th team to enter Major League Soccer while replacing the USSF Division 2 team of the same name in the city, making them a phoenix club and the third to carry the Whitecaps name. The club has been owned and managed by the same group since their USSF days. In the 2012 season, the team became the first Canadian team to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs. The 2024 Vancouver Whitecaps FC season is the club's thirteenth season in Major League Soccer, the top division of soccer in the United States and Canada. Including previous iterations of the franchise, this is the 47th season of professional soccer being played in Vancouver under a variation of the "Whitecaps" name. Having won the 2023 Canadian Championship, the Whitecaps participated in the CONCACAF Champions League for a second consecutive season and fourth time overall. The Whitecaps are also participating in the 2024 Canadian Championship looking to win their third domestic cup championship in a row. They also participated in the 2024 Leagues Cup. Whitecaps FC 2 is a professional soccer team based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada that serves as the reserve team of the Vancouver Whitecaps FC of Major League Soccer. Max Anchor (born July 21, 2004) is a professional Canadian soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Major League Soccer. Early life Anchor began playing youth soccer at age 4 with Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC. Thomas Hasal (born July 9, 1999) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in Major League Soccer. Early life Born in Cambridge, Ontario, Hasal moved with his family to Ottawa when he has a year old, where he began playing soccer at age five. He then moved to Calgary at age seven, Edmonton at age eight, and Saskatoon at age nine. 2022 Canadian Championship
The 2022 Canadian Championship was the fifteenth edition of Canada's national soccer cup tournament, awarding the Voyageurs Cup. It took place from May 10 to July 26, 2022. The winners of the tournament, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, were awarded the Voyageurs Cup and earned a berth in the 2023 CONCACAF Champions League.
