2023 USL Championship Playoffs
The 2023 USL Championship Playoffs (branded as the 2023 USL Championship Playoffs presented by Hisense for sponsorship reasons) was the post-season championship of the 2023 USL Championship. It was the thirteenth edition of the USL Championship Playoffs. The playoffs began on October 21, and concluded with the USL Championship Final on November 12. San Antonio FC were the defending title holders and were eliminated in the Conference Semi-finals by Sacramento Republic FC. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC and the Tampa Bay Rowdies were the first teams to clinch a playoff berth which they both achieved on September 3 and subsequently both lost in the first round. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC won the regular season and were eliminated in the Conference Quarterfinals by Detroit City FC. San Antonio FC
San Antonio FC is a professional soccer club based in San Antonio, Texas. It competes in the USL Championship, the second-highest level of the United States soccer league system, as a member of the Western Conference. History San Antonio FC was awarded the thirty-first USL franchise on January 7, 2016. The establishment of the club, along with the concurrent purchase of Toyota Field by the City of San Antonio and Bexar County, was part of a plan by local officials to obtain an expansion franchise in Major League Soccer. As a result, the San Antonio Scorpions franchise of the North American Soccer League was shut down. Akeem O'Connor-Ward
Akeem O'Connor-Ward (born January 5, 1996) is an American soccer player who plays as a defender for Memphis 901 in the USL Championship. Career Ward was selected 14th overall by D.C. United in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, and he signed a professional contract with the club on January 31, 2019. “We had him rated as the best right back in the draft,” said United GM Dave Kasper. “We liked everything about him." He was loaned out to D.C.'s USL affiliate Loudoun United in March 2019. He made his USL Championship debut on March 9, 2019, as he played all ninety minutes in a 2–0 away defeat to Nashville SC. Leston Paul
Leston Peter Paul (born 11 March 1990) is a Trinidadian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Memphis 901 in the USL Championship. He previously played for Central F.C. in the Trinidad and Tobago (TT) Pro League, where he led the "Sharks" to a hat trick of TT Pro League titles (2014–15, 2015–16 and 2016–17) and back to back CFU Club Championship triumphs in the 2014–15 and 2015-16 seasons. New Mexico United is an American professional soccer team based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Founded in 2018, the team currently plays in the USL Championship, the second division of American soccer. History Former teams The state of New Mexico gained its first professional soccer team in the 1990s, the New Mexico Chiles of the American Professional Soccer League and later the USISL.
