2023 UEFA–CONMEBOL Club Challenge
The 2023 UEFA–CONMEBOL Club Challenge ( es, UEFA–CONMEBOL Desafío de Clubes 2023), named Antonio Puerta XII in honour of the former Sevilla player who died in 2007, was the inaugural edition of the UEFA–CONMEBOL Club Challenge, a football match organised by UEFA and CONMEBOL between the reigning champions of the UEFA Europa League and Copa Sudamericana. UEFA was in charge of the main organization of the first edition. The UEFA–CONMEBOL Club Challenge was officially launched on 7 July 2023 as part of the UEFA–CONMEBOL memorandum of understanding. The single match was played on 19 July 2023 at Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium in Seville, Spain, between Spanish club Sevilla, the 2022–23 UEFA Europa League winners and Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle, the 2022 Copa Sudamericana winners. The Ecuadorian Football Federation ( es, Federación Ecuatoriana de Fútbol or ) is the governing body of football in Ecuador. The 2023 Campeonato Ecuatoriano de Fútbol Serie A, known as the LigaPro BET593 2023 for sponsoring purposes, was the 65th season of the Serie A, Ecuador's top tier football league, and the fifth under the management of the ''Liga Profesional de Fútbol del Ecuador'' (or LigaPro). The 2022 Copa Sudamericana Final was the final match which decided the winner of the 2022 Copa Sudamericana. This was the 21st edition of the Copa Sudamericana, the second-tier South American continental club football tournament organized by CONMEBOL. The match was played on 1 October 2022 between Brazilian club São Paulo and Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle, and it was originally scheduled to be played at Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha in Brasília, Brazil, however, on 23 June 2022 CONMEBOL announced that a change of venue was requested by the Brazilian Football Confederation due to the 2022 Brazilian general election taking place one day after the date of the match.
