2023 Rugby World Cup Pool C
Pool C of the 2023 Rugby World Cup began on 9 September 2023 and concluded on 8 October 2023. The pool included two-times champions Australia national rugby union team, Australia, and automatic qualifiers Wales national rugby union team, Wales and Fiji national rugby union team, Fiji. They are joined by Georgia national rugby union team, Georgia (Europe 1) and Portugal national rugby union team, Portugal (Final Qualifier Winner). It is the fourth time in five Rugby World Cup tournament in which Australia, Wales and Fiji have been in the same group (2011 Rugby World Cup, 2011 being the exception, where Wales and Fiji were still drawn together, and Wales faced Australia in the bronze medal match). The Australia national rugby union team, nicknamed the Wallabies, is the representative national team in the sport of rugby union for the nation of Australia. The team first played at Sydney in 1899, winning their first test match against the touring British Isles team. Australia have competed in all nine Rugby World Cups, winning the final on two occasions and also finishing as runner-up twice. Australia beat England at Twickenham in the final of the 1991 Rugby World Cup and won again in 1999 at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff when their opponents in the final were France. The Wallabies also compete annually in The Rugby Championship (formerly the Tri-Nations), along with southern hemisphere counterparts Argentina, New Zealand and South Africa. They have won this championship on four occasions. Australia also plays Test matches against the various rugby-playing nations.
