2023 Portland Timbers Season
The 2023 Portland Timbers season was the 37th season in their existence and the 13th season for the Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer (MLS), the top-flight professional soccer league in the United States and Canada. Background Season review February On February 27, Portland hosted Sporting Kansas City for the home opener after a postponed match that was set for Saturday 25 due to heavy snow and ice. Portland scored the first goal in the 6th minute by Juan Mosquera (assisted by Yimmi Chará) to give the Timbers their first win of the season. March On March 4, Portland traveled to Los Angeles, California to play Los Angeles Football Club at the newly named BMO Stadium. Portland was able to almost catch up after being down by 3 with a final score of 2-3. The goalscorers were Evander (assist by: J. Mosquera) in the 62nd minute and C. Portland Timbers
The Portland Timbers are an American professional men's soccer club based in Portland, Oregon. The Timbers compete in Major League Soccer (MLS) as a member club of the league's Western Conference. The Timbers have played their home games at Providence Park since 2011, when the team began play as an expansion team in the league. The club was founded in 2009, when the city of Portland was awarded an expansion berth to Major League Soccer. The United States soccer league system is a series of professional and amateur soccer leagues based, in whole or in part, in the United States. Sometimes called the American soccer pyramid, teams and leagues are not linked by the system of promotion and relegation typical in soccer elsewhere. Claudio Nicolás Bravo (born 13 March 1997) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a left-back for Major League Soccer club Portland Timbers. Hunter Pendleton Sulte (born April 25, 2002) is an American soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for USL Championship club Indy Eleven, on loan from Major League Soccer club Portland Timbers. Club career Born in Anchorage, Alaska, Sulte left his hometown when he has 13 to attend a soccer academy in Portland, Oregon. After playing with the Portland Timbers academy, Sulte appeared for Portland's USL Championship side Portland Timbers 2 on March 7, 2020, starting in a 6–1 loss to Phoenix Rising. Aljaž Ivačič (born 29 December 1993) is a Slovenian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Major League Soccer club New England Revolution. Club career Ivačič was signed by Portland Timbers on 18 January 2019. He made his debut for the club in a 6–1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on 19 September 2020, earning three saves and giving up one goal. David Bingham (American Soccer)
David Matthew Bingham (born October 19, 1989) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for Major League Soccer club Portland Timbers. Youth David Bingham was born October 19, 1989 in Castro Valley, California to his parents Greg and Lisa Bingham. Bingham played for the youth club, Mustang United based out of Danville, California. In 2007, his club team made it to the Super- Y league National Championships. Bingham was a member of the Super-Y national team in 2006 and 2007. Guillermo "Memo" Valencia is a Colombian football coach and former player who currently serves as the goalkeeping coach for the Portland Timbers in Major League Soccer. Liam Ridgewell
Liam Matthew Ridgewell (born 21 July 1984) is an English retired professional footballer who played as a defender. He was primarily a centre back but could also play at left back. He is currently a coach for the Portland Timbers. Ridgewell, who earned eight caps for England at under-21 level, began his senior career with Aston Villa. Ned Grabavoy (born July 1, 1983) is a retired American professional soccer player who played as a midfielder. He is the technical director and lead soccer operations director for the Portland Timbers. Career Youth and College Grabavoy played his youth soccer with the Chicago Magic Soccer Club under coach Mike Matkovich from U12 through U19. Grabavoy's U16 Chicago Magic team was credited with winning the Chicago Magic Soccer Clubs first National Youth Soccer Club Association Championship in 1999.
