2023 National
The 2023 Daedong (company), KIOTI National (curling), National was held from November 7 to 12 at the Pictou County Wellness Centre in Westville Road, Nova Scotia, Westville Road, Nova Scotia. It was the second Grand Slam of Curling, Grand Slam event and first major of the 2023–24 curling season. In the men's final, Italy's Joël Retornaz team continued their strong season by defeating the Niklas Edin rink from Sweden, 6–5. It was their second straight Slam victory, and third ever. In the women's final, South Korea's Gim Eun-ji rink continued their strong play from the 2023 Pan Continental Curling Championships the week prior, defeating the previously undefeated Rachel Homan rink from Ontario 7–6 in the championship game. It was Gim's first Slam title, and the first Slam title for a South Korean team at the Tier 1 level. Seol Ye-ji
Seol Ye-ji (born August 26, 1996 in Seoul, South Korea) is a South Korean curler from Uijeongbu. She was the third, but is now the alternate on the Gyeonggi Province curling team, skipped by Gim Eun-ji. Career Seol joined the Gim Un-chi rink in 2018 as the teams alternate. The team had a full schedule for the 2018–19 season, beginning with the Hokkaido Bank Curling Classic where they finished fourth. On tour in Canada, they reached the final of the Gord Carroll Curling Classic where they lost to Chelsea Brandwood. They also made the semifinals of the Prestige Hotels & Resorts Curling Classic and the quarterfinals of the Canad Inns Women's Classic. Team Gim was invited to play in the 2018 Tour Challenge Tier 2 Grand Slam event where they qualified for the playoffs as the number one seed. Brad Gushue
Bradley Raymond Gushue, ONL ( ; born June 16, 1980) is a Canadian curler from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Gushue, along with teammates Russ Howard, Mark Nichols, Jamie Korab and Mike Adam, represented Canada in curling at the 2006 Winter Olympics, where they won the gold medal by defeating Finland 10–4. He also represented Canada at the 2022 Winter Olympics, where he won a bronze medal. In addition to the Olympics, Gushue won the 2017 World Men's Curling Championship with teammates Mark Nichols, Brett Gallant, and Geoff Walker. He is a four-time Brier champion, having won in 2017, 2018, 2020, and 2022, all with Nichols, Gallant and Walker. Their win in 2017 was Newfoundland and Labrador's first Brier title in 41 years. Brendan Bottcher
Brendan Michael Bottcher (born December 19, 1991) is a Canadian curler from Sherwood Park, Alberta. Bottcher is a three-time provincial men's champion, and was the skip of the 2021 Canadian men's championship team, having led Alberta to victory at the 2021 Tim Hortons Brier. Born in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Bottcher enjoyed a successful junior career winning the 2012 Canadian Junior Curling Championships and the 2012 World Junior Curling Championships. He was also the 2010 Alberta junior men's champion and the 2007 Alberta juvenile provincial finalist. Bottcher skips his own team out of the Saville Sports Centre in Edmonton. Bruce Mouat
Bruce Mouat (; born 27 August 1994 in Edinburgh) is a Scottish curler. He is an Olympic silver medallist, having skipped Great Britain to a second place finish in the men's team event at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Career Mouat had a very successful junior career, winning two Scottish junior championships in 2015 and 2016. He skipped the Scottish team at the 2015 World Junior Curling Championships, where he led his team of Duncan Menzies, Derrick Sloan and Angus Dowell to a bronze medal. The team had a 6-3 round robin record, which was good enough for third place. They lost to Sweden in the 3 vs. 4 playoff game, but won in a re-match against the Swedes in the bronze medal game. World Curling Federation
The World Curling Federation (WCF) is the world governing body for curling accreditation, with offices in Perth, Scotland. It was formed out of the International Curling Federation (ICF), when the push for Olympic Winter Sport status was made. The name was changed in 1990. The ICF was initially formed in 1966 as a committee of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in Perth after the success of the Scotch Cup series of world championships held between Canada and Scotland. At the outset, it comprised the associations of Scotland, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, and the United States. In the wake of its formation, it sanctioned the World Curling Championships. 2023 Pan Continental Curling Championships
The 2023 Pan Continental Curling Championships were held from October 29 to November 4 at the Kelowna Curling Club in Kelowna, British Columbia. The event was used to qualify teams for the 2024 World Curling Championships. Both men's and women's events consisted of an A Division and B Division. In the men's competition, the top five teams from the A Division (Canada, South Korea, Japan, the United States, New Zealand) secured qualification for the 2024 World Men's Curling Championship, which will be held in Schaffhausen, Switzerland. Conversely, the team ranked lowest in the A Division (Guyana) was be relegated to the B Division in the following year. Additionally, the top finisher in the B Division (China) earned promotion to the A Division for the 2024 championship. Grand Slam Of Curling
The Grand Slam of Curling (branded as the Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling for sponsorship reasons) is a series of curling bonspiels that are a part of the annual World Curling Tour. Grand Slam events offer a purse of at least CAD$100,000, and feature the best teams from across Canada and around the World. The Grand Slam was instituted during the 2001–02 season for men and 2006–07 for women (with the 2006 Players' Championship also considered a Slam), but some of the Grand Slam events have longer histories as bonspiels. The 2022 BOOST National was held from October 4 to 9 at the North Bay Memorial Gardens in North Bay, Ontario. It was the first Grand Slam event of the 2022–23 curling season. Qualification The top 16 ranked men's and women's teams on the World Curling Federation's world team rankings as of September 5, 2022 qualified for the event. In the event that a team declines their invitation, the next-ranked team on the world team ranking is invited until the field is complete.
