The 2023 Munster Senior Hurling Championship was the 2023 installment of the annual Munster Senior Hurling Championship organised by Munster GAA. The competition began on Sunday, 23 April 2023. Limerick, who entered the competition as four times defending champions, retained their title after defeating Clare in the final. A captain of a Gaelic games team, sometimes known as a ''skipper'', is a player who, during the course of a match as well as before and after it, has several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of his teammates. Tradition means that some teams rotate the captaincy annually, though others may adopt a permanent captain. As well as being an onfield leader, a captain takes the coin toss and raises the trophy when this is the game's prize. Responsibilities The captain leads the team out onto the pitch. Before the start of a match, a coin toss between captains of the opposing teams is used to determine which end of the ground each team will kick to. 1959 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
Refereed by Jeremiah Fitzgerald (Rathkeale, Limerick) The 1959 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 73rd staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The championship began on 12 April 1959 and ended on 4 October 1959. The championship was won by Waterford who secured the title following a 3-12 to 1-10 defeat of Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. This was their second All-Ireland title, their first in eleven championship seasons. It remains their last All-Ireland triumph. Tipperary were the defending champions but were defeated by Waterford in the Munster semi-final. 2019 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The 2019 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 132nd staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament, since its establishment in 1887. The draw for the 2019 fixtures took place on 11 October 2018. The championship began on 11 May 2019 and concluded on 18 August 2019. Limerick were the defending champions. Carlow returned to the Leinster Championship for the first time since 2016, replacing Offaly who were relegated in 2018.
