Kuwait (; ar, الكويت ', or ), officially the State of Kuwait ( ar, دولة الكويت '), is a country in Western Asia. 2020 Kuwaiti General Election
General elections were held in Kuwait on 5 December 2020. Two-thirds of the incumbents lost their seats, including the 2016 parliament's sole woman MP Safa Al Hashem. Background Registration of candidates contesting for the 50 seats of the National Assembly took place between 26 October and 4 November 2020. 102 schools were used for the 2020 National Assembly elections on December 5. Each school had a clinic set up to check on the health condition of all those entering. Electoral system The 50 elected members of the National Assembly are elected from five 10-seat constituencies by single non-transferable vote. Political parties are not officially licensed, therefore candidates run as individuals, although many political groups operate freely as de facto political parties. Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah
Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah ( ar, جابر مبارك الحمد الصباح, Jābir Mubārak al-Ḥamad aṣ-Ṣabāḥ, born 4 January 1942) is a Kuwaiti royal and former politician who served as the prime minister of Kuwait from 2011 to 2019. Previously he served as minister of defense as well as deputy prime minister. In April 2021 a Kuwaiti court ordered his detention on corruption charges. Jaber was first appointed as prime minister on 4 December 2011. A year later, on 5 December 2012, he was reappointed as prime minister following the parliamentary election held on 1 December 2012. Khaled Al Jarrah Al Sabah
Khaled Al Jarrah Al Sabah (, born 1953) is a Kuwaiti lieutenant general, who retired from military services after being appointed as minister of defense to succeed retired Lt General Sheikh Ahmed Al Khaled Al Hamad Al Sabah in the post. He was deputy prime minister and minister of defense from 4 August 2013 to 11 December 2017. He also served as deputy prime minister and minister of interior from 11 December 2017 to 18 November 2019. He is a member of the ruling family of Kuwait, Al Sabah. In March 2021, the Kuwaiti ministerial court ordered his arrest and imprisonment, on charges of corruption. Career Sabah was appointed as the Chief of General Staff of the Kuwait Military Forces on 4 March 2012. He held the rank of lieutenant general and retired from the Kuwaiti Armed Forces. In law, a sentence is the punishment for a crime ordered by a trial court after conviction in a criminal procedure, normally at the conclusion of a trial. 2015 Kuwait Mosque Bombing
A suicide bombing took place on 26 June 2015 at a Shia mosque in Kuwait. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant claimed responsibility for the attack.
