Sigulda
Sigulda (; german: Segewold, pl, Zygwold, russian: Сигулда) is a town in the Vidzeme region of Latvia, from the capital city Riga. Overview Sigulda is on a picturesque stretch of the primeval Gauja river valley. Because of the reddish Devonian sandstone which forms steep rocks and caves on both banks of the river, Sigulda has been called the "Switzerland of Vidzeme". After the restoration of Latvian independence in 1991, an emphasis was placed on conserving Sigulda's public monuments and parks as well as improving the town's tourist sector. Supported by the town council, a traditional Opera Festival takes place in an open-air music hall in the castle ruins each summer. A Town Festival is celebrated in May when cherry trees blossom, while Sigulda is known for the colors of its trees in autumn. Simon Kainzwaldner (born 24 February 1994) is an Italian Olympic luge athlete who currently races for his nation on the World Cup circuit in the Men's doubles event as a pair with Emanuel Rieder. Life and career At the 2012 Youth Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria representing Italy in the Boys' singles and doubles luge events as well as the mixed team relay event. Kainzwaldner finished with the gold in tandem with his racing partner Florian Gruber in the doubles, 10th the boys singles, and with his teammates Andrea Voetter, Daniel Gatterer, and Florian Gruber, fifth in the mixed relay competition. Dominik Fischnaller (born 20 February 1993) is an Italian luger who has competed since 2002. He has won silver and two bronze medals at Junior World Championships. Fischnaller won the Junior Luge World Cup for the 2010–11 season. His best Luge World Cup overall finish was third 2013–14 Luge World Cup. Fischnaller is an athlete of the Centro Sportivo Carabinieri. Biography Fischnaller competed for Italy in the Men's singles luge event at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. She is four-time Junior World Champion and won gold medal at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics at doubles' race and silver medal at the individual race. She also retains the World Championships gold medal at 2022, 2023 in women's doubles discipline and Women's doubles' sprint discipline in 2023. Career Degenhardt started her luge career at PSV Elbe Dresden in 2010 when she was eight years old. Currently, she is a member of the RRC Altenberg club and German national team.
