2023 English Open (snooker)
The 2023 English Open (officially the 2023 BetVictor English Open) is an upcoming professional snooker tournament that will take place from 2 to 8 October 2023 at the Brentwood Centre in Brentwood, England. The fourth ranking event of the 2023–24 season, it follows the 2023 British Open and precedes the 2023 Wuhan Open. It is the first of four tournaments in the season's Home Nations Series, preceding the 2023 Northern Ireland Open, the 2023 Scottish Open, and the 2024 Welsh Open. It is also the third of eight tournaments in the season's European Series.The winner will receive £80,000 from a total prize fund of £427,000 and earn a place in the 2023 Champion of Champions invitational event. The English Open is a professional ranking snooker tournament. History On 29 April 2015 World Snooker chairman Barry Hearn announced that the event called English Open will be held for the first time in 2016 in Manchester, England, as part of a new Home Nations Series with the existing Welsh Open and new Northern Ireland Open and Scottish Open tournaments. The winner of the English Open is awarded the Davis Trophy which is named in honour of former world champion Steve Davis. European Series
The BetVictor European Series is a snooker tournament series established in 2019. It was expanded from four tournaments in the 2019–20 season to six tournaments in the 2020–21 season and then to eight tournaments in the 2021–22 season and 2022–23 season. The player who wins the most cumulative prize money in European Series events each season receives a bonus prize of £150,000. Judd Trump won the bonus prize in the first two seasons, while John Higgins won the bonus in the third season and Robert Milkins in the fourth. Liam Pullen
Liam Pullen (born 11 July 2005) is an English snooker player from Yorkshire. In April 2023 he became the England under-18 snooker champion. He has earned a two-year card on the World Snooker Tour starting with 2023–24 snooker season. Career From York, Pullen made his debut at Q School in 2021 as a fifteen year-old and his performances included a win over former professional James Cahill. In July 2022 he made his first maximum break, while practising in Leeds. Mark Davis (snooker Player)
Mark Davis (born 12 August 1972) is an English professional snooker player from St Leonards in Sussex. He became professional in 1991, and for many years was considered something of a journeyman; however, he vastly improved his game in the late 2000s, and as a result in 2012 made his debut in the top 16. The highlights of his career so far have been winning the Benson & Hedges Championship in 2002 (earning him an appearance at the Masters), and the six-red snooker world championships three times (in 2009, 2012 and 2013). Joe Perry (born 13 August 1974) is an English professional snooker player from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire. Often referred to as "the Fen Potter" and also nicknamed "the Gentleman", Perry climbed the rankings steadily after turning professional in 1992 and reached the Top 16 for the first time in 2002. Noppon Saengkham (; born 15 July 1992) is a Thai professional snooker player. Stuart Bingham
Stuart Bingham (born 21 May 1976) is an English professional snooker player who is a former world and Masters champion. Bingham won the 1996 World Amateur Championship but enjoyed little sustained success in the early part of his professional career. Luca Brecel
Luca Brecel (born 8 March 1995) is a Belgian professional snooker player. He won the European Under-19 title at the age of 14 and went on to break Stephen Hendry's record as the youngest player ever to compete at the Crucible Theatre. Snooker World Rankings
The snooker world rankings are the official system of ranking professional snooker players to determine automatic qualification and seeding for tournaments on the World Snooker Tour. The ranking lists are maintained by the sport's governing body, the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. Each player's world ranking is based on their performances in designated ranking tournaments over the preceding two years. The world ranking list is updated after every ranking tournament. The system of world rankings was inaugurated in the 1976–77 season. Until the 2013–14 season, the point tariffs for each tournament were set by the governing body, but the rankings transitioned to a prize money list in the 2014–15 season.
