2023 Categoría Primera A Season
The 2023 Categoría Primera A season (officially known as the 2023 Liga BetPlay Dimayor season for sponsorship purposes) is the 76th season of the Categoría Primera A, Colombia's top-flight football league. The season began on 24 January and will end on 10 December 2023. Deportivo Pereira are the defending champions, having won the 2022 Finalización tournament. Format The competition format for this season was approved by the Extraordinary Assembly of DIMAYOR on 14 December 2022, which decided to keep the same system used in the previous season, with two tournaments (Apertura and Finalización) of three stages each. Teams 20 teams will take part in the season, the top 18 teams from the relegation table of the previous season as well as the 2022 Primera B champions Boyacá Chicó and the winners of the Primera B promotion play-off Atlético Huila. The Categoría Primera A (), commonly referred to as Liga BetPlay Dimayor (between 2015 and 2019 ''Liga Águila'') due to sponsorship by online betting company BetPlay, is a Colombian professional league for association football clubs. It is the country's premier football tournament and sits at the top of the Colombian football league system. A total of twenty clubs compete in the league's regular season. ''División Mayor del Fútbol Profesional Colombiano'', better known as DIMAYOR, operates the league system of promotion and relegation for both Categoría Primera A and Categoría Primera B leagues. Atlético Huila is a professional Colombian football team based in Neiva, that currently plays in the Categoría Primera B. The club was founded on November 29, 1990, making it one of the youngest professional football clubs in Colombia. Patriotas Boyacá
Patriotas Boyacá, also known as Patriotas, is a professional Colombian football team based in Tunja, that currently plays in the Categoría Primera B. They play their home games at the La Independencia stadium. History Patriotas was founded in 2003 by the then-governor of Boyacá Miguel Ángel Bermúdez, together with the then Coldeportes chairman and the owners of hardware business G&J. In its first year in the Primera B, the club reached the semifinals, where it was eliminated by Bogotá Chicó. Deportes Quindío is a professional Colombian football club based in Armenia that currently plays in the Categoría Primera B. 2022 Categoría Primera B Season
The 2022 Categoría Primera B season (officially known as the 2022 Torneo BetPlay Dimayor season for sponsorship reasons) was the 33rd season of the Categoría Primera B since its founding as Colombia's second division football league. The season began on 22 January and ended on 29 November 2022. Boyacá Chicó were the champions, winning their third Primera B title as well as promotion to the top flight by defeating Atlético Huila by a 3–0 score on aggregate in the season's Grand Final. Atlético Huila claimed the other promotion berth, defeating Deportes Quindío in the promotion play-off by a 2–1 aggregate score. Jaguares de Córdoba is a professional Colombian football team based in Montería, that plays in the Categoría Primera A. They play their home games at the Jaraguay stadium.
