2022–23 UConn Huskies Women's Basketball Team
The 2022–23 UConn Huskies women's basketball team represented the University of Connecticut (UConn) during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Huskies, led by Hall of Fame head coach Geno Auriemma in his 38th season at UConn, split their home games between Harry A. Gampel Pavilion on their campus in Storrs and the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut. UConn is a member of the Big East Conference, which it joined in the 2020–21 season; it had been a member of the original Big East Conference from 1979 through 2013, and one of the original women's basketball teams in that conference in 1982. Geno Auriemma
Luigi "Geno" Auriemma (born March 23, 1954) is an Italian-born American college basketball coach and, since 1985, the head coach of the University of Connecticut Huskies women's basketball team. , he has led UConn to 17 undefeated conference seasons (including eight consecutive), of which six were undefeated overall seasons, with 11 NCAA Division I national championships, the most in women's college basketball history, and has won eight national Naismith College Coach of the Year awards. Auriemma was the head coach of the United States women's national basketball team from 2009 through 2016, during which time his teams won the 2010 and 2014 World Championships, and gold medals at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics, going undefeated in all four tournaments. Olivia Nelson-Ododa
Olivia Nelson-Ododa (born August 17, 2000) is an American professional basketball player for the Connecticut Sun of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She played college basketball at UConn. High school career Nelson-Ododa played basketball for Winder-Barrow High School in Winder, Georgia. As a sophomore, she was named '' Athens Banner-Herald'' Co-Player of the Year after averaging 17 points and 10 rebounds per game, and leading her team to the Class 6A state final. Christyn Williams (born May 20, 2000) is an American women's basketball player. She was drafted by the Washington Mystics. She played college basketball at the University of Connecticut (UConn). She played in high school for Central Arkansas Christian School in North Little Rock, Arkansas. A five-star recruit and one of the most decorated high school basketball players in history, Williams rose to national acclaim after winning the 2018 WBCA National Player of the Year award, the 2018 Naismith National Player of the Year award the 2018 Gatorade National Player of the Year award, and the 2018 USA Today Player of the Year award. 2022 Big East Women's Basketball Tournament
The 2022 Big East women's basketball tournament is the postseason women’s basketball tournament for the Big East Conference and took place March 4 to 7, 2022, at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. UConn won their 20th title, receiving the conference's automatic bid to the 2022 NCAA tournament. Seeds All 11 Big East schools are scheduled to participated in the tournament. Teams will be seeded by the conference record with tie-breaking procedures to determine the seeds for teams with identical conference records. The top five teams will receive first-round byes. Lou Lopez Sénéchal (born May 12, 1998) is a Mexican-French professional basketball player for the Dallas Wings of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA). Aaliyah Edwards (born July 9, 2002) is a Canadian college basketball player for the UConn Huskies of the Big East Conference. Nika Mühl (born 9 April 2001) is a Croatian college basketball player for the UConn Huskies of the Big East Conference. She plays the point guard position. Twice a Big East Defensive Player of the Year (2022, 2023), Mühl is the Huskies' all-time single season record holder for assists with 284 in the 2022-23 campaign. Azzi Fudd (born November 11, 2002) is an American college basketball player for the UConn Huskies of the Big East Conference. Fudd attended St. John's College High School in Washington, D.C. and became the first sophomore to win Gatorade Player of the Year. She was ranked the number one recruit in her class by ESPN.
