2022–23 Sun Belt Conference Men's Basketball Season
The 2022–23 Sun Belt men's basketball season will be the season for Sun Belt Conference basketball teams that will begin with practices in October 2022, followed by the start of the 2022–23 NCAA Division I men's basketball season in November 2022. The regular ended in March 2023. Conference realignment The SBC lost two members and gained four in July 2022. The conference's two non-football members, Little Rock Trojans, Little Rock and UT Arlington Mavericks, UT Arlington, left with Little Rock joining the Ohio Valley Conference and UT Arlington joining the Western Athletic Conference. Three schools left Conference USA to join the SBC—Marshall Thundering Herd, Marshall, Old Dominion Monarchs, Old Dominion, and Southern Miss Golden Eagles, Southern Miss, with Old Dominion returning to the SBC after a 31-year absence. NCAA Division I (D-I) is the highest level of College athletics, intercollegiate athletics sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States, which accepts players globally. D-I schools include the major collegiate athletic powers, with large budgets, more elaborate facilities and more athletic scholarships than Divisions II and III as well as many smaller schools committed to the highest level of intercollegiate competition. Southern Miss Golden Eagles
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles and Lady Eagles (also known as Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles and Lady Eagles) are the intercollegiate athletics teams that represent the University of Southern Mississippi (USM), located in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The Golden Eagles (Lady Eagles for women's basketball) compete at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level mainly as a member of the Sun Belt Conference (SBC). USM's newest sport of women's beach volleyball, a sport not currently sponsored by the Sun Belt, was added in the 2018–19 school year and competes in Conference USA. Brian Burg
Brian Adam Burg (born February 4, 1980) is an American basketball coach who most recently served as head coach of the Georgia Southern Eagles men's basketball team. Early life and education Burg is a native of Katy, Texas and is the son of Jim Burg. He played basketball at Cisco College before transferring to Mount Mercy University. When he was in college, Burg wrote letters to Bob Knight to try to find a coaching job. Burg graduated from Mount Mercy in 2003. He earned his master's degree from Lake Erie College in 2005. Auburn Tigers Men's Basketball
The Auburn Tigers men's basketball program is the intercollegiate men's basketball team that represents Auburn University. The school competes in the Southeastern Conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Cliff Ellis
Robert Clifford Ellis (born December 5, 1945) is an American college basketball coach, currently the head coach at Coastal Carolina University. Going into the 2020–21 season, Coach Ellis's 800 NCAA Division I victories rank him 8th on the list of all-time career coaching victories in NCAA Division I basketball. Ellis is a member of three Halls of Fame after entering Clemson's in 2013. He was already part of the Mobile Sports and Cumberland University Halls of Fame. Ellis has compiled a Division I record of 817-540 (.602) and an overall record of 894-550(.619). He ranks third in NCAA Division I wins among active coaches. Dustin Kerns is an American college basketball coach, and current head coach of the Appalachian State Mountaineers men's basketball team. Coaching career Kerns served as a student assistant at Clemson for its men's basketball team, and after graduation landed his first coaching job at Tennessee Tech. Jonas Hayes
Jonas Hayes (born August 9, 1981) is an American college basketball coach and former player. He is the current head coach of Georgia State. He previously served as an assistant coach, and later interim head coach, for the Xavier Musketeers. He was also an assistant coach for the Morehouse Maroon Tigers, South Carolina State Bulldogs, Belmont Abbey Crusaders, and Georgia Bulldogs. Robert A. Lanier (born July 24, 1968) is an American college basketball coach for the SMU Mustangs. He previously served as the head coach at Georgia State from 2019 to 2022 and Siena from 2001 to 2005.
