2022–23 IIHF Continental Cup
The 2022–23 Continental Cup was the 25th edition of the IIHF Continental Cup, Europe's second-tier ice hockey club competition organised by International Ice Hockey Federation. The season began on 23 September 2022 and the final tournament was played from 13 to 15 January 2023. HK Nitra won the tournament for the first time thus becoming the fifth Slovak team in history to win the trophy. For the first time since the 2014–15 season, the IIHF Continental Cup winners did not get a wild card spot for the next season of the Champions Hockey League due to the reduction in the number of teams participating in the latter beginning from the 2023–24 season. HK Nitra
Hokejový Klub Nitra is a professional ice hockey club based in Nitra, Slovakia. The club has been a member of the Slovak Extraliga since the 2003–04 season and winner of Slovak Extraliga in the 2015–16 season. History The club was founded in 1931 under the name AC. Their first trophy which they won was the Tatra Cup in 1934. The club was renamed several times; from 1945 to 1976 they were named ''Sokol, Komunálny podnik, Spojené závody, Slavoj, Slovan,'' and ''Štart''. In 1976 the club was renamed Plastika Nitra. They won the 1. SNHL (1st Slovak National Hockey League), the second level of Czechoslovak hockey, in the 1983–84 season and clinched participation in the preliminary round for the Czechoslovak Extraliga. HDD Jesenice
Hokejsko drsalno društvo Jesenice or simply HDD Jesenice, currently named SIJ Acroni Jesenice due to sponsorship reasons, is a Slovenian professional ice hockey team based in Jesenice. They are members of the Alps Hockey League and the Slovenian Ice Hockey League. HDD Jesenice was founded in 2014. The club replaced a temporary team called Team Jesenice, which was established in 2013. HDD Jesenice previously competed in the Inter-National League from 2014 to 2016, before the league merged into the Alps Hockey League. Italian Hockey League - Serie A, formerly known as Serie A, is the top tier of professional ice hockey in Italy, which first began play in 1925. They are conducted under the authority of the Federazione Italiana Sport del Ghiaccio (FISG). The league initially merged with the Inter-National League to become the Alps Hockey League in 2016. Polska Hokej Liga
The Polska Hokej Liga is the premier ice hockey league in Poland. Previously, it was known as the I Liga or Ekstraklasa from 1926 to 1999, and the Polska Liga Hokejowa from 1999 to 2013. In 2013, it was reorganized as a limited liability company and renamed the Polska Hokej Liga. It follows a system of relegation to and promotion to/from the Polish 1. Liga. History The championship started in 1925-26. At first, it was a non-league system composed of regional tournaments. The tournaments had two stages. The best teams qualified to the final tournament, of which the winner was declared champion.
