2022–23 Gibraltar Intermediate Cup
The 2022–23 Gibraltar Intermediate Cup was a single-leg knockout tournament played by under-23 clubs from Gibraltar, who compete in the Gibraltar Intermediate League. The champions of the first edition were Mons Calpe, who defeated Manchester 62 4–1 in the final on 15 January 2019. This second edition will see the tournament return for the first time in 4 years, with a new format. Format The new format was revealed along with the draw in December 2022. Mons Calpe S
Mons (; German and nl, Bergen, ; Walloon and pcd, Mont) is a city and municipality of Wallonia, and the capital of the province of Hainaut, Belgium. Mons was made into a fortified city by Count Baldwin IV of Hainaut in the 12th century. The population grew quickly, trade flourished, and several commercial buildings were erected near the ''Grand’Place''. In 1814, King William I of the Netherlands increased the fortifications, following the fall of the First French Empire. The Industrial Revolution and coal mining made Mons a centre of heavy industry. In 1830, Belgium gained its independence and the decision was made to dismantle the fortifications, allowing the creation of large boulevards and other urban projects. Victoria Stadium (Gibraltar)
Victoria Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Gibraltar. It is currently used mostly for football matches, but also hosts the annual Gibraltar Music Festival. It is located close to Gibraltar Airport just off Winston Churchill Avenue. It was named after the wife of Gibraltarian philanthropist John Mackintosh. Despite initial plans to replace the stadium in the 2010s, the Gibraltar Football Association purchased the stadium from the Government of Gibraltar in April 2017 in order to improve and renovate it. The redevelopment of the stadium is due to start in late 2022, with the national team announcing they will play UEFA and FIFA games in Faro, Portugal. 2022–23 Gibraltar Intermediate League
The 2022–23 Gibraltar Intermediate League is the fifth season of under-23 football in Gibraltar, after reforms to reserve team football in June 2018. The league will be contested by 11 teams - ten under-23 sides of the Gibraltar Football League clubs plus Hound Dogs. Manchester 62 are the reigning champions. The league kicked off on 6 September 2022. Format The Gibraltar Intermediate League was established by the Gibraltar Football Association in June 2018 as a merger of the pre-existing Reserves Division and Under 18 Division, in order to aid player development on the territory. Evan Green (footballer)
Evan James Green (born 13 March 1993) is an English-born Gibraltarian association footballer who currently plays for Lions Gibraltar, and the Gibraltar national football team. Club career Until 2016, Green played for Lions Gibraltar in the Gibraltar Premier Division, before spending the second half of the 2015–16 season on loan at Gibraltar United. At the end of the season, he made the transfer permanent as he played 17 times, helping Gibraltar United to stay up. However, he was deemed surplus to requirements at the club once they were taken over by a consortium led by Pablo Dana and Michel Salgado, catching the attention of Kingstonian during their pre-season tour of Gibraltar, and scoring in a 2–1 victory for the Ks against Lynx. His performances led to him being signed by the English club for the coming season.
