The 2022 World Orienteering Championships were held from 26 to 30 June 2022 in the Triangle Region, Denmark. This was the first World Orienteering Championships with only sprint races, and the first to include a knock-out sprint event. Triangle Region (Denmark)
Triangle Region Denmark ( da, Trekantområdet) is a cooperation consisting of seven Danish municipalities on the Danish peninsula of Jutland and the island of Funen: Billund, Fredericia, Haderslev, Kolding, Middelfart, Vejen and Vejle. The Triangle Region began as the general term for the industrial and communications hubs of Kolding, Vejle and Fredericia in the early 1960s. The three cities (thus ‘triangle’) originally worked together to coordinate and collaborate locally, but have since expanded into a cooperation between seven municipalities, which together have 421,480 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2018) and cover an area of 4,266.0 km2. An area of political and economic stability, the Triangle Region is often regarded as Denmark’s third major region after Aarhus and Copenhagen. Eef Van Dongen
Eef van Dongen (born 1993) is a Dutch orienteering competitor. She received a bronze medal at the first ever knock-out sprint event at the 2022 World Orienteering Championships, behind Tove Alexandersson and Megan Carter Davies. On club level, van Dongen competes for both Västerviks OK (in Sweden) and OLifant (in the Netherlands). Van Dongen is the first Dutch orienteer to receive a medal in the World Championships; the Netherlands has low participation in orienteering, with only 450 registered members as of 2022. In an interview in the lead up to the 2022 World Games, van Dongen indicated that she only started orienteering in 2018 after meeting her partner, Simon Jakobsson. She attended a training camp in Zürich in spring 2018, and decided to focus on sprint orienteering. Andrine Benjaminsen
Andrine Benjaminsen (born 23 August 1995) is a Norwegian Orienteering, orienteer and ski orienteering, ski orienteer. Career Benjaminsen represented Norway at the 2017 World Orienteering Championships in Tartu, Estonia, where her best result was ninth place in the long distance. In ski orienteering, she won a bronze medal at the 2013 and 2015 Junior World Ski Orienteering Championships, Junior World Championships. At the 2021 European Orienteering Championships she won a bronze medal in the Knock-out sprint, and a bronze medal in the Sprint relay with the Norwegian team. At the 2021 World Orienteering Championships in the Czech Republic, she placed 10th in the sprint. Lukas Liland (born 1999) is a Norwegian orienteering competitor. Career At the 2022 World Orienteering Championships in Denmark, Liland won a bronze medal with the Norwegian sprint relay team. Ane Dyrkorn (born 1999) is a Norwegian orienteering competitor who represents the club NTNUI. Kris Jones
Kristian Jones or Kris Jones (born 3 April 1991) is a competitor in orienteering and athletics, competing for Great Britain. He also competes for Lillomarka OK in Norway, Forth Valley orienteers and Wales. Orienteering Jones has had most success in Sprint Orienteering, winning medals in the European Championships and the Junior World Championships, and winning the Jan Kjellstrom Orienteering Festival Sprint 3 times in a row from 2016 to 2018. Ralph Street (born 1990) is a British orienteering competitor. He was part of the British team that came second in the sprint relay at the 2022 World Orienteering Championships. His team included Megan Carter Davies, Kris Jones and Charlotte Ward. Street has competed for Baekkelagets SK in Norway, Sodertalje Nykvarn Orientering and Nydalens in Sweden and South London Orienteers. He has also competed for Sheffield University Orienteering Club. Lina Strand (born 23 December 1988) is a Swedish orienteering competitor, born in Gothenburg. She won a bronze medal in the relay at the 2012 European Orienteering Championships in Falun.
