2022 World Judo Championships
The 2022 World Judo Championships was held at the Humo Ice Dome in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from 6 to 13 October 2022, concluding with the mixed team event on its final day. Scheduling The competition was originally scheduled to take place from 7 to 14 August 2022. Having been postponed by two months, its newly initially rescheduled third and fourth day would have coincided with Yom Kippur. Moshe Ponte, President of the Israel Judo Association cited this new schedule as problematic, saying that he would "handle it" with the International Judo Federation. Two days later, it was published that the competition will be postponed by an extra four days. World Judo Championships
The World Judo Championships are the highest level of international judo competition, along with the Olympic judo competition. The championships are held once every year (except the years when the Olympics take place) by the International Judo Federation, and qualified judoka compete in their respective categories as representatives of their home countries. Team competitions have also been held since 1994. The men's championships began in 1956, though the format and periodicity of the championships have changed over time. Hifumi Abe
is a Japanese judoka. Abe rose to prominence after becoming Youth Olympic champion in 2014. He won the Tokyo Grand Slam later that year, at just 17-years-old, beating then-World Champion Masashi Ebinuma. He was the silver medalist at the junior World Championships in Fort Lauderdale. Abe is the current national half-lightweight champion at the All-Japan Judo Championships and won the gold medal in the 66 kg competition at the 2020 Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan. Early life Abe began training judo in 2003, at the age of 6, in his hometown of Kōbe in Hyōgo prefecture. He began competing in elementary school. Yang Yung-wei
Yang Yung-wei (; Paiwan language: Drangadrang; born 28 September 1997) is a Taiwanese Paiwan judoka. He is the current silver Olympic medalist in the Extra Lightweight event. He also won one of the bronze medals in the men's 60 kg event at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Career Yang was born in Shizi, Pingtung, and raised in Taichung. He began practicing judo while attending primary school, during his third grade year. His mother and two other siblings also had judo experience. As a Shin Min High School student, Yang was coached by Lin Shih-hsuan. In 2017, he competed at the Summer Universiade held in Taipei, Taiwan. Yeldos Smetov ( kz, Елдос Бахтыбайұлы Сметов, ''Eldos Bahtybaiūly Smetov''; born 9 September 1992) is a Kazakh judoka who competes in the under 60 kg weight division. Naohisa Takato
is a Japanese judoka. Takato is currently the top ranked judoka in the world in the extra-lightweight division. He became one of judo's most prominent fighters by winning the 2013 World Championships. In the same year, he also won the Masters in Tyumen, and the prestigious Grand Slams in Paris, Tokyo and Moscow. With these successes, Takato was ranked No. 1 in the world in 2013 and 2014.
