2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships – Men's 800 Metres
The men's 800 metres at the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships took place on 18 and 19 March 2022. Summary Mariano García came into the World Championships as the world leader for 2022. No podium athlete returned from the distant 2018 Championships and with Elliot Giles failing to start the heats, only Álvaro de Arriba returned from the previous final. With 8 men on a 6 lane track running the first turn in lanes, Marco Arop rushed from his shared position to take a clear lead at the break. Andreas Kramer and Noah Kibet fell in line behind as Arop took the field through a 24.04 first lap with Garcia trailing the field. For the second lap, most everybody stayed in the same position, except for Garcia who stepped into lane 2 and cruised past the string of athletes into third place. Mark English (born 18 March 1993) is an Irish Middle-distance running, middle-distance runner. Early life English's home town is Letterkenny in County Donegal. He attended secondary school at St Eunan's College. He only made the switch to athletics during his Transition Year, having previously played Gaelic football for Letterkenny Gaels at under-age level. Charles Da'Vall Grice (born 7 November 1993), informally known as Charlie Grice, is a British middle distance athlete. Athletics career Grice started out as both a footballer, playing at county level, and an athlete, but balancing them both led to injuries and he decided to solely focus on athletics. He had a breakthrough in 2010, when he broke the English Schools' Athletics Association Championships record in the final of the 1500 metres as well as taking the title. Alex Amankwah (born 2 March 1992) is a Ghanaian middle-distance runner specialising in the 800 metres. He attended college and competed in athletics at the University of Alabama, where he set a school record and was a First Team All-American in the indoor 800 metres. He qualified for the 800 metres at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, China but was unable to compete due to visa issues. Guy Learmonth (born 20 April 1992 in Berwick-upon-Tweed) is a Scottish and Great British athlete specialising in the 800 metres. His PB currently stands as 1:44.73 and he is the 3rd fastest Scottish 800m athlete of all time. Charlie Hunter (born 20 July 1996) is an Australian middle-distance runner who specializes in the 800 metres. Hunter competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. He came fourth in his Men's 800m heat with a time of 1:45:91. He qualified for the semi-final where he finished seventh and therefore was eliminated. Early years Hunter grew up on the NSW Central Coast. From an early age he enjoyed swimming and surfing rather than running. He played football and rugby at school and then joined Little Athletics as an under-9. Hunter graduated from high school in 2014 and concentrated on his running.
