2022 World Athletics Championships – Men's Long Jump
The men's long jump at the 2022 World Athletics Championships was held at the Hayward Field in Eugene on 15 and 16 July 2022. 34 athletes from 21 nations entered to the competition. Summary The first round ended with nobody jumping over 8 metres. Indian record holder Murali Sreeshankar, using the mononymous "Sreeshankar", held the lead at 7.96m. In the second round, Steffin McCarter was the first over 8 with an 8.04m to open the floodgate. After a Sreeshankar foul, Olympic Champion Miltiadis Tentoglou blasted an 8.30m to take over the lead as three more competitors achieved jumps over 8 meters - Marquis Dendy with 8.02m, Maykel Massó with 8.15m, and finally Simon Ehammer with 8.16m. Hayward Field
Hayward Field is a track and field stadium in the northwest United States, located on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. It has been the home of the university's track and field teams since 1921, and was the on-campus home of the varsity football team from 1919 through 1966. Track and field competitions at the stadium are organized by the not-for-profit organization TrackTown USA. Hayward Field was named after track coach Bill Hayward (1868–1947), who ran the Ducks' program from 1904 to 1947. Michael Anthony Powell (born November 10, 1963) is an American former track and field athlete, and the holder of the long jump world record. He is a two-time world champion and two-time Olympic silver medalist in this event. His world record of has stood since 1991. Biography Background Powell was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Edgewood High School in West Covina, California, where he finished second in the high jump at the CIF California State Meet in 1981. Mohamed Salman Al Khuwalidi
Mohamed Salman Al-Khuwalidi (born 19 June 1981 in Dhahran) is a Saudi Arabian long jumper. His personal best is 8.48 metres, achieved in July 2006 in Sotteville-lès-Rouen, France. This is also the current Asian record. Potchefstroom (, colloquially known as Potch) is an academic city in the North West Province of South Africa. It hosts the Potchefstroom Campus of the North-West University. Luvo Manyonga
Luvo Manyonga (born 8 January 1991) is a South African track and field athlete who specialises in the long jump. He won the 2017 World Championship in London and the 2018 Commonwealth Games title in the Gold Coast, Australia. He was the Olympic silver medallist in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. Manyonga was world junior champion in 2010, and the African Games champion in 2011. He competed at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics, placing fifth.
