2022 Winter Paralympics Medal Table
The medal table of the 2022 Winter Paralympics ranks the participating National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) by the number of gold medals that are won by their athletes during the competition. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, athletes from Belarus and Russia were considered to compete under a neutral flag without appearing in the medal standings. However, following threats of boycott by multiple delegations, the IPC issued a blanket ban on Russian and Belarusian athletes, expelling them from the Paralympic Games. There were 78 medal events across six sports. Athletes from 19 NPCs won medals, leaving 27 NPCs without a medal. Host China topped the medal table for the first time with 61 medals in total, including 18 gold medals. Liudmyla Liashenko (born 17 May 1993) is a Ukrainian cross-country skier and biathlete. She has competed at the Paralympics in 2014, 2018 and 2022. Oleksandra Mykolaivna Kononova ( uk, Олександра Миколаївна Кононова, born 27 February 1991) is a Ukrainian Paralympic skier. She won three medals at the 2010 Paralympics and became the 2010 Ukrainian sports personality of the year. Personal life Kononova was born in Brovary in 1991. She had a condition when she was a young child that meant that her right arm did not develop as well as her other arm. Kononova was an orphan brought up by her grandmother. When she was ten she met some youths who were using in-line roller skates. Kononova came from a poor background, she was bullied due to her disability and remembered being unhappy. She found out that the people she had met in the park were not roller skaters but a team training using skates for cross-country skiing. She decided to take up the sport. Iryna Vasylivna Buy ( uk, Ірина Василівна Буй, born 29 April 1995) is a Ukrainian Paralympic biathlete and cross-country skier. She won the gold medal in the women's 10 kilometres standing event at the 2022 Winter Paralympics held in Beijing, China. She also competed at the Winter Paralympics in 2014 and 2018. Early life Buy was born on 29 April 1995 in Derazhnia, Khmelnytskyi Oblast. She was born with congenital malformation of the left hand. Career At the age of 15, Buy started playing sports.
