2022 West Lothian Council Election
The 2022 West Lothian Council election took place on 5 May 2022. Elected positions in all 9 wards created as a result of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004 were up for election, with each ward electing three or four Councillors using the single transferable vote (STV) system form of proportional representation, with 33 Councillors being elected in total. Background 2017 results Following the 2017 West Lothian Council election, the Labour and Conservative groups worked together in the chamber to hold a majority, although both parties denied this claim. This agreement led to Cllr Lawrence Fitzpatrick being appointed Council Leader and Conservative Cllr Tom Kerr was appointed Provost of West Lothian. West Lothian Council
West Lothian Council is the local authority for the council area of West Lothian in Scotland. History West Lothian District Council was created in 1975 as one of four districts within the Lothian region. The West Lothian district took its name from the historic county of West Lothian, which had covered a similar but not identical area. The Lothian region was abolished in 1996, when the four districts in the region, including West Lothian, became unitary council areas. Political control The first election to the West Lothian District Council was held in 1974, initially operating as a shadow authority alongside the outgoing authorities until the new system came into force on 16 May 1975. Independence For Scotland Party
The Independence for Scotland Party (ISP) (Scottish Gaelic: Pàrtaidh Neo-eisimeileachd do dh'Alba) is a political party in Scotland which supports Scottish independence within the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). History The party was founded in 2020 and was registered by the Electoral Commission on 7 May 2020. On 8 January 2021, Roddy McCuish became the first elected representative of the ISP, when he joined the party while on Argyll and Bute Council, having been elected as an independent and then later moving to the party. He had been both a Scottish National Party representative and an independent. Alba Party
The Alba Party is a Scottish nationalist and pro-independence political party in Scotland. The party was founded in February 2021, with Alex Salmond (a former first minister of Scotland) announced as party leader shortly thereafter. Salmond launched the party's 2021 Scottish Parliament election campaign in March 2021, with the party standing list-only candidates. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. Scottish Greens
The Scottish Greens (also known as the Scottish Green Party; gd, Pàrtaidh Uaine na h-Alba ; sco, Scots Green Pairtie) are a green political party in Scotland.
