The 2022 season is the Washington Commanders' 91st in the National Football League (NFL) and their third under head coach Ron Rivera. This is the team's first season under the Commanders branding, with new logos and uniforms being introduced after temporarily playing as the Washington Football Team for the previous two seasons following the retirement of the Redskins branding in 2020. The team traded for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz during the offseason. However, after going 2–4 under Wentz, he would be placed on injured reserve due to a finger injury after a Week 6 win over the 2022 Chicago Bears season, Chicago Bears. The 2021 Penn State Nittany Lions football team represented Pennsylvania State University in the 2021 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The team competed as a member of the Big Ten Conference and played their home games at Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pennsylvania. The team was led by eighth-year head coach James Franklin. The Nittany Lions had a promising start to the season, going 5–0 and beating a ranked Wisconsin and Auburn, to reach number 4 in the AP poll. Jahan Waltè Dotson ( ; born March 22, 2000) is an American football wide receiver for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Penn State and was drafted by the Commanders in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Early years Dotson was born on March 22, 2000, in Newark, New Jersey. He attended Nazareth Area High School in Nazareth, Pennsylvania in the Lehigh Valley region of eastern Pennsylvania. Taylor Heinicke ( ; born March 15, 1993) is an American football quarterback for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Old Dominion and signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2015. Heinicke has also been a member of the New England Patriots, Houston Texans, and Carolina Panthers, as well as the St. Louis BattleHawks in the XFL.
