2022 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships
The 2022 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships were held in the French commune Les Gets from 24 to 28 August 2022. Les Gets, located in the Haute-Savoie Departments of France, department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regions of France, region of France close to the border with Switzerland, previously hosted the 2004 UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships. The Les Gets Bike Park, which is located within the Portes du Soleil ski area, has of marked trails and provides for Downhill mountain biking, downhill, Cross-country cycling, cross-country, Freestyle BMX, freestyle, Freeride (mountain biking), freeride, and e-mountain biking. Les Gets
Les Gets () is a commune in the Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in south-eastern France. The village's first single-person chair lift was opened in 1938 with the first chair lift on Mont Chéry in 1954. Geography Les Gets is situated on the col between Taninges and Morzine, at the western edge of the Portes du Soleil ski area. Culture Les Gets contains a museum of Mechanical Music and hosts a festival of Mechanical Music bi-annually. This has been running for 25 years. During this period the streets are closed off and barrel organs or ''orgues'' fill the streets with mechanical music. Many of the organ grinders come from other European countries, such as Germany and Holland. Traditional Savoy dishes are central to Les Gets cuisine. Jérôme Gilloux (born 22 May 1994) is a French mountain biker specialising in the e-MTB event. Gilloux was born on 22 May 1994. At the inaugural e-MTB world championship in 2019, he finished second after Alan Hatherly from South Africa. At the 2020 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships he again placed second, this time beaten by the United Kingdom's Tom Pidcock. Nino Schurter (born 13 May 1986) is a Swiss cross-country cyclist who races for the SCOTT-SRAM MTB Racing Team. Schurter won the world championship in men's cross-country in 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 and the overall UCI World Cup in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022 and thus become the first man to hold 8 World Cup overall titles.
