2022 Senior Open Championship
The 2022 Senior Open Championship, for sponsorship reasons known as The Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex, was a senior major golf championship and the 35th Senior Open Championship, held on 21–24 July at Gleneagles – Kings Course in Auchterarder, Perthshire, Scotland. It was the first Senior Open Championship played at the course and the 19th Senior Open Championship played as a senior major championship. Venue The Gleneagles Hotel opened in 1924 and is located one hour outside of Edinburgh and set in grounds of 850 acres (340 ha; 1.33 sq mi). Gleneagles has three golf courses: the King's Course, Queen's Course and PGA Centenary Course, previously known as the Monarch's Course. There is also a nine-hole course called the PGA National Academy Course. The championship course, the Kings Course, was originally designed by James Braid and opened in 1919. Auchterarder
Auchterarder (; gd, Uachdar Àrdair, meaning Upper Highland) is a small town located north of the Ochil Hills in Perth and Kinross, Scotland, and home to the Gleneagles Hotel. The High Street of Auchterarder gave the town its popular name of "The Lang Toun" or Long Town. The modern town is a shopping destination with a variety of independent shops and cafes. Miguel Ángel Jiménez Rodríguez (born 5 January 1964) is a Spanish professional golfer. He has won 21 times on the European Tour and has been a member of two victorious Ryder Cup teams. Early years Born in Málaga in southern Spain, Jiménez first played on the European Tour in 1988 and improved steadily over the next few seasons. His first win on the tour came at the Piaget Belgian Open in 1992. During a fairly up and down career, he has so far had four main periods of success. Bernhard Langer
Bernhard Langer (; born 27 August 1957) is a German professional golfer. He is a two-time Masters champion and was one of the world's leading golfers throughout the 1980s and 1990s. In 1986, he became the sport's first official number one ranked player following the creation of the OWGR. Langer is one of five golfers who have won professional golf events on all six continents where golf is played. He has victories on all the premiere tours, with 42 wins on the European Tour ( 2nd most all-time), three on the PGA Tour, and numerous international victories; including wins on the Japan Golf Tour, Asian Tour, Australasian Tour, and the Tour de las Américas. The 2014 Senior Open Championship was a senior major golf championship and the 28th Senior Open Championship, held 24–27 July at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in Porthcawl, Wales. It was the first Senior Open Championship played at the course and the 12th Senior Open Championship played as a senior major championship. Paul Broadhurst
Paul Andrew Broadhurst (born 14 August 1965) is an English professional golfer. He won six times on the European Tour and played in the 1991 Ryder Cup. Since turning 50, he has had success in senior events, winning the 2016 Senior Open Championship and the 2018 Senior PGA Championship. Career Broadhurst was the leading amateur at the 1988 Open Championship. He joined the European Tour in 1989 and picked up his first win at the Credit Lyonnais Cannes Open that year, and was the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. Further European Tour wins followed in 1991, 1993 and in 1995, when he won the Open de France (French Open). He played in the Ryder Cup in 1991. His highest finish on the European Tour Order of Merit is ninth in 1996. Len Mattiace
Leonard Earl Mattiace (; born October 15, 1967) is an American professional golfer, formerly of the PGA Tour and now playing on the PGA Tour Champions. Mattiace was born in Mineola, New York. He attended Nease High School in Ponte Vedra, Florida. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 1990 with a degree in Sociology. While at Wake Forest, he played on the team that won the NCAA Division I Golf Championship in 1986. He turned pro later in 1990. Mattiace first gained notability when he surged into contention in the final round of the 1998 Players Championship. Trailing by one shot going into the par-3 17th hole, he hit his tee shot into the water, his third shot into a bunker, and his fourth shot into the water. He ended up with a quintuple-bogey 8 on the hole and finished in a tie for fifth, four strokes behind the eventual winner Justin Leonard.
