2022 Richmond Spiders Football Team
The 2022 Richmond Spiders football team represented the University of Richmond as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in the 2022 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Spiders, led by sixth-year head coach Russ Huesman, played their home games at E. Claiborne Robins Stadium. Previous season After beginning the season as a fringe Top 25 team and winning their first two games, the Spiders lost five games in a row before recovering to finish the season on a four-game winning streak. At 6–5 with a 4–4 record in CAA play, the Spiders did not qualify for the FCS playoffs. Preseason Following the graduation of four-year starting quarterback Joe Mancuso, the Spiders brought in graduate transfer Reece Udinski from Maryland to lead the team in 2022. Colonial Athletic Association
The Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) is a collegiate athletic conference affiliated with the NCAA's Division I whose full members are located in East Coast states from Massachusetts to South Carolina. Most of its members are public universities, and the conference is headquartered in Richmond. The CAA was historically a Southern conference until the addition of four schools in the Northeast (of five that joined from rival conference America East) after the turn of the 21st century, which added geographic balance to the conference. The CAA was founded in 1979 as the ECAC South basketball league. It was renamed the Colonial Athletic Association in 1985 when it added championships in other sports (although a number of members maintain ECAC affiliation in some sports). As of 2006, it organizes championships in 21 men's and women's sports. Goodman Stadium
Goodman Stadium is Lehigh University's 16,000-seat stadium located on its Goodman Campus in Lower Saucon Township. It opened in 1988, replacing Taylor Stadium, which stood in the main academic campus from 1914 until 1987. The former Taylor Stadium site now holds the Rauch Business Center, the Zoellner Arts Center, and a parking garage. The Murray H. Goodman Stadium is named after real estate developer Murray H. Morse Field at Harold Alfond Sports Stadium is a 10,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Orono, Maine. The stadium opened as Alumni Field in 1947 and underwent extensive renovations from 1996 to 1998. It is home to the University of Maine Black Bears football team. The wood and steel grandstands, built in the 1940s, were condemned and demolished in 1996, replaced with the current east grandstand, along with a temporary structure on the west side, adjacent to Alfond Arena. Armstrong Stadium is a 12,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Hampton, Virginia. It opened in 1928. It is home to the Hampton University Pirates football team, lacrosse team, and men's and women's track teams. Led by third-year head coach Robert Prunty, the Pirates played their home games at the Armstrong Stadium in Hampton, Virginia. Elon () is a town in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States. It is part of the Burlington metropolitan statistical area. The population as of the 2020 census was 11,324. The town of Elon is home to Elon University. Elon began in 1881 as a North Carolina Railroad depot in between the stations of Goldsboro and Charlotte, called "Mill Point” because it was envisioned to be a shipping point for area cotton mills. Locals called it “Boone’s Crossing.” Because of a growing population, a post office was built, which established a more permanent residency in 1888.
