Pioneer Football League
The Pioneer Football League (PFL) is a collegiate athletic conference which operates in the United States. The conference participates in the NCAA's Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) as a football-only conference. It has member schools that range from New York, North Carolina, and Florida in the east to California in the west. It is headquartered in St. Louis, in the same complex that also contains the offices of the Missouri Valley Conference and Missouri Valley Football Conference. Unlike most other Division I FCS conferences, the Pioneer League consists of institutions that choose not to award athletic scholarships ("grants-in-aid") to football players. Spec Martin Stadium is a 6,000 seat football stadium located in DeLand, Florida. Spec Martin Stadium currently hosts Stetson Hatters football, DeLand High School Bulldog football and was the host of the Central Florida Warriors rugby league team. The stadium was known as DeLand Municipal Stadium from is opening in 1941 until it was renamed in 1973. The 2022 Dayton Flyers football team represented the University of Dayton as a member of the Pioneer Football League during the 2022 NCAA Division I FCS football season. The Flyers were led by 14th-year head coach Rick Chamberlin and played their home games at Welcome Stadium. Despite the Flyers finishing in a second place tie in the conference with a 6-2 conference record, they still had a chance to claim the PFL’s automatic bid in the FCS Playoffs (due to St. Thomas (MN) being ineligible due to their 5-year transition from Division III to Division I) but failed to do so after a narrow 24-23 loss to Davidson in the final week of the regular season. Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field is a 5,000-seat multi-purpose stadium in Poughkeepsie, New York. It is home to the Marist College Red Foxes football team. The field was named after Alex Leonidoff, a local physician and avid Marist Athletics supporter. The facility opened in 1968. At the conclusion of the 2006 football season, the existing grandstand was removed to make way for a more modern, updated facility including modern press boxes, luxury suites, home and away locker rooms, an athletic training room as well as a new concession stand.
