2022 North Carolina Senate Election
An election will be held on November 8, 2022 to elect all 50 members to North Carolina's Senate. The election will coincide with the elections for other offices, including the U.S Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, and state house. The filing period lasted from February 24, 2022 to March 4, 2022, with the primary election being held on May 17, 2022 (prior to the redistricting challenges it was scheduled to be held on March 8, 2022). The elections were originally to be held under new districts passed by the General Assembly in Senate Bill 739 to account for population changes following the 2020 census, however, following a ruling by the North Carolina Supreme Court, the General Assembly redrew the maps (Senate Bill 744) to comply with the court's ruling. North Carolina Senate
The North Carolina Senate is the upper chamber of the North Carolina General Assembly, which along with the North Carolina House of Representatives—the lower chamber—comprises the state legislature of North Carolina. The term of office for each senator is only two years. The Senate's prerogatives and powers are similar to those of the other house, the House of Representatives. Its members do, however, represent districts that are larger than those of their colleagues in the House. The President of the Senate is the Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina, but the Lt. Governor has very limited powers and only votes to break a tie. Before the office of Lt. Governor was created in 1868, the Senate was presided over by a "Speaker." Bob Steinburg (born July 30, 1948) is a former Republican member of the North Carolina General Assembly. He served 3 terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives and 1.5 terms in the North Carolina Senate. Early life, education, marriage and career Bob Steinburg was born in 1948 near Oswego, New York. He currently lives in Edenton, North Carolina. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Upper Iowa University in 1990. He also has an associate degree in retail business management from Corning Community College in 1969. Charles Marion Edwards (born September 13, 1960) is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for North Carolina's 11th congressional district since 2023. Jeffrey Neale Jackson (born September 12, 1982) is an American politician, attorney, and military officer serving as the U.S. representative for North Carolina's 14th congressional district since 2023. He represented the 37th district in the North Carolina Senate from 2014 to 2022. After graduating from law school, Jackson worked as an assistant district attorney in Gaston County; he is of counsel at Womble Bond Dickinson. In 2002, Jackson enlisted in the United States Army Reserve and served in the Kandahar Province during the War in Afghanistan.
