2022 Nagasaki Gubernatorial Election
The 2022 Nagasaki gubernatorial election was a gubernatorial election held on 20 February 2022 to elect the next governor of , a prefecture of Japan in the north-west of Kyushu. Three-term incumbent Hōdō Nakamura ran for re-election for a fourth four-year term, announcing his intentions on the final session of the Nagasaki Prefectural Assembly for 2021 on 21 December. Whether he would run was the subject of speculation and confusion, as he had made comments in late 2021 suggesting that he would not run and instead "pass the baton to the next leader". Nakamura had attempted to recruit a successor; but decided to run himself after those efforts fell through. LDP Nagasaki Prefectural Assembly Secretary-General offered to run as a successor, but reportedly had policy disagreements with Nakamura, and decided not to run with Nakamura running. Kobe University
, also known in the Kansai region as , is a leading Japanese national university located in the city of Kobe, in Hyōgo Prefecture, Hyōgo. Nagasaki 3rd District
is a single-member electoral district for the House of Representatives, the lower house of the National Diet of Japan. It is located in the prefecture of Nagasaki. It covers parts of Nagasaki on the main island of Kyūshū – the city of Ōmura and the towns of Kawatana, Hasami and Higashisonogi, Nagasaki in former '' Higashi-Sonogi'' ("East Sonogi") ''-gun'' (county or district) – and several of the prefecture's island municipalities: the cities of Iki, Tsushima and Gotō and the town of Shin-Kamigotō in '' Minami-Matsuura''/"South Matsuura" district. The is the lower house of the National Diet of Japan. The House of Councillors is the upper house. The composition of the House is established by and of the Constitution of Japan. The House of Representatives has 465 members, elected for a four-year term. Of these, 176 members are elected from 11 multi-member constituencies by a party-list system of proportional representation, and 289 are elected from single-member constituencies. The overall voting system used to elect the House of Representatives is a parallel system, a form of semi-proportional representation. Under a parallel system the allocation of list seats does not take into account the outcome in the single seat constituencies. Yaichi Tanigawa
is a Japanese politician serving in the House of Representatives since 2003. Early life and career Yaichi Tanigawa was born 12 August 1941 in the city of Gotō, and is a graduate of Nagasaki Higashi High School. He served in the Nagasaki Prefecture assembly from 1999 to 2003, and founded Tanigawa Kensetsu Co., later serving as chairman of both the corporation and the assembly. Political career Tanigawa was first elected as a member of the House of Representatives from the Liberal Democratic Party in the 2003 Japanese general election, replacing Kazuo Torashima as representative from Nagasaki 3rd district. He narrowly defeated Democratic Party of Japan candidate Masahiko Yamada, who was elected in the Kyushu proportional representation block.
