2022 Lithuanian Football Cup
The 2022 Lithuanian Football Cup, for sponsorship reasons also called lt, Hegelmann LFF Taurė is a single elimination football tournament in Lithuania. The winner of the competition earns a spot in the first qualifying round of the 2023–24 UEFA Europa Conference League. Having had participants numbers limited to the first three tiers for the last two years, this year's tournament was open to clubs from any division. As before, the "B" teams do not participate in the cup competition. The A lyga teams entered the tournament from the second round this year. A total number of participants this year was 54: 10 A lyga clubs, 11 LFF I lyga clubs, 11 LFF II lyga clubs, 17 LFF III lyga clubs and 5 SFL clubs. FK Žalgiris
Futbolo klubas Žalgiris, commonly known as FK Žalgiris, Žalgiris Vilnius or simply Žalgiris, is a Lithuanian professional football club based in Vilnius. The club competes in the A Lyga, the top flight of Lithuanian football. The club was founded as Dinamo in 1947. The club's name commemorates the victorious ''Battle of Žalgiris'' (Battle of Grunwald) (both names: ''Žalgiris'' and ''Grunwald'' are translated as "green forest"). FK Šilas Kazlų Rūda
FK Šilas is a Lithuanian association football, football club from the city of Kazlų Rūda. The team competes in the I Lyga, in second tier of Football in Lithuania, Lithuanian football since 2021. In 2022, after a merger, the club was renamed to Marijampolė City, and moved to Marijampolė. History Šilas was founded in 1940 as FK Ąžuolas. The club has been renamed several times in the following years. In 2016 Šilas won I Lyga and hoped for promotion to A Lyga, but after a match fixing scandal were relegated to II Lyga. The club was officially declared entering administration, and therefore were not allowed to play in A Lyga or I Lyga. As FK Šilas lost place in A Lyga, FK Kauno Žalgiris got saved from the relegation to I Lyga. FK Ekranas (2020)
Panevėžio Ekranas is a Lithuanian football club, from the city of Panevėžys. It won 7 top-tier champion and 5 national cup titles throughout its existence. The club was founded in 1964 and for 24 years competed in the top tier of Lithuanian football. However, at the end of 2014 season the club ran into financial difficulties, failed to meet admission criteria to A Lyga for the 2015 season and was subsequently declared bankrupt. A new club FK Panevėžys was formed to represent the city of Panevėžys, which managed to pass licensing criteria for the 2015 I Lyga season. FK Ekranas was declared bankrupt in 2016. In 2020 FK Ekranas was restored. They're currently at the 2nd tier of Lithuanian football. The team was promoted to the Lithuanian A Lyga after the 2018 season, when became winners of 1 Lyga. History The city of Panevėžys has a long history of football in Lithuania. Baltijos Futbolo Akademija, BFA is a Lithuanian football club based in Vilnius, established as an extension of the youth football academy. History The football academy was established in 2007. The club has been participating in the Children and Youth Football Championships organized by the Lithuanian Football Federation as well as international football tournaments. They currently play in the II Lyga, the third tier of Lithuanian football. They are the oldest active football club in the country. Be1 NFA is a football team, which based in Kaunas, Lithuania. History The National Football Academy was established in 2006. In 2012 it was founded for the team, I Lyga. In that season they were in 6th places. After the season heads of NFA decided play in 3rd tier. In 2013 the club competed in II Lyga (3rd tier). After the first half of the season the club was in 3rd position. FK NFA withdrew mid season, their license was taken over by FC Stumbras, who went on to win the first place. They currently play in the I Lyga, the second tier of Lithuanian football. FK Atmosfera is a phoenix club of Atmosfera Mažeikiai. History Mažeikiai has a deep history of football. Since the mid-20th century, there was a football club that competed at the top tier of the Lithuanian SSR football league, achieving two championship titles during that time. This club changed names frequently, but was named Atmosfera Mažeikiai between 1973 and 1990. Between 1990 and 2012, several clubs in Mažeikiai rose up and fell apart, mostly due to financial circumstances.
