2022 LFA Season
The 2022 LFA season was the seventh season of operation (sixth season of play) of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA), the top American football league in Mexico. The regular season began on 4 March and concluded on 24 April, with the playoffs beginning on April 30 and ending with the Tazón México V, on 21 May. Fundidores won their first LFA championship after defeating Gallos Negros 18–14 in the Tazón México V, played in Tijuana. Preseason events Expansion Two new teams joined the league for the 2021 season: Galgos de Tijuana, based in Tijuana, and Reyes de Jalisco, based in Zapopan, Jalisco. The league also lost one team, Osos de Toluca, that folded in January 2021. With these changes, the 2022 season will be contested by seven teams and, unlike the previous seasons, the league will not be divided into two divisions. Estadio Caliente
The Estadio Caliente Xoloitzcuintles is a multi-use stadium in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, that is mostly used for football matches. The stadium hosts home matches for the football club Club Tijuana, who play in Liga MX, Mexico's top league. Estadio Caliente is also the home of the gridiron football team, Galgos de Tijuana, that competes in the LFA. Stadium The stadium was opened in November 2007, according to schedule. The stadium originally had a capacity of 13,333. Work on the stadium still continues today. The stadium will have a final capacity of 33,333 once completed. Estadio Jesús Martínez "Palillo"
The Estadio Jesús Martínez "Palillo" is a multi-use stadium located in the Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City in Mexico City. It is currently the home of the Mexicas of the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional (LFA) and Guerreros de Xico of the Serie B de México. The stadium has a capacity of 6,000 seated spectators. History The Estadio Municipal (Municipal Stadium) opened in 1964. In 1983, it was named after Mexican actor and comedian Jesús Martínez "Palillo" in recognition of his contributions to the original construction of the Sports City. The stadium was remodeled in 2014 at a cost of 25 million pesos, its first major maintenance in 15 years. Águilas Blancas (), also known as Politécnico when representing the entirety of National Polytechnic Institute, founded as Águilas Blancas de la ESCA- ESIQIE, is a Mexican college football team based in the Casco de Santo Tomas neighborhood of Mexico City, Mexico. ''Águilas Blancas'' participate in the Green Conference as part of the National Student Organization of American Football (ONEFA). Borregos Salvajes Toluca
The Borregos Salvajes Toluca (English: ''Toluca Wild Rams''), or simply Borregos Toluca, team represented the Toluca campus of the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM) in college football from 1995 to 2021. The Borregos Toluca last competed in the Jacinto Licea Conference, ONEFA's top division. Borregos Toluca has won one National Championships in 2017 and two Conferencia Premier titles (2017 and 2018). Borregos Salvajes CEM
The Borregos Salvajes CEM (English: ''CEM Wild Rams''), or simply Borregos CEM, was an American football team representing the State of Mexico campus of the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM). The Borregos Salvajes competed in the ONEFA and later in the Conferencia Premier CONADEIP. Dinos de Saltillo (English: ''Saltillo Dinos'') are an American football team based in Saltillo, Mexico. The Dinos compete in the Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional, the top American football league in Mexico. The team plays its home games at the Estadio Francisco I. Madero. The Auténticos Tigres UANL (English: ''UANL Authentic Tigers'') team represents the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) in college football. The Auténticos Tigres compete in the Jacinto Licea Conference, ONEFA's top division.
