2022 Invercargill Mayoral Election
The 2022 Invercargill mayoral election took place on 8 October 2022 as part of the New Zealand local elections. Incumbent mayor Tim Shadbolt unsuccessfully sought a tenth term against nine other candidates, losing to his deputy Nobby Clark. The election was conducted under the first-past-the-post voting system using the postal voting system. Voting began on 16 September and ended at noon on 8 October 2022. Background Tim Shadbolt has been mayor of Invercargill since 1998. In May 2021, former councillor and 2013 mayoral candidate Lindsay Dow began forming a coalition to defeat Shadbolt. This followed a scandal wherein Shadbolt's driving licence was suspended and deputy mayor Nobby Clark criticized him for not being forthcoming about the reason. Nobby Clark (politician)
William Stuart "Nobby" Clark (born ) is a New Zealand politician, serving as the Mayor of Invercargill since 2022. He has also served on the Invercargill City Council since 2019 and as deputy mayor since 2020. Early life and career Clark was born in Nelson and moved to Auckland after leaving school. He served as a medic during the Vietnam War, and subsequently moved to Invercargill in 1975. He has been described as a blue collar worker and worked at Oranga Tamariki, Stopping Violence Southland, and the IHC New Zealand. He was employed by ''Idea Services'' the company owned by IHC, until he was sacked as their Southland regional manager. He initially lost a wrongful dismissal case, but on appeal won $15,500 compensation and repayment of costs. Lesley Frances Soper (born 5 November 1954) is a former New Zealand politician of the New Zealand Labour Party, Labour Party. Penny Simmonds
Penelope Elsie Simmonds is a New Zealand politician and Member of Parliament in the House of Representatives for the National Party. She previously served as the chief executive of the Southern Institute of Technology. Early life and career Simmonds was born in Southland and grew up in Riversdale and Te Tipua. She attended Gore High School and received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Otago. She served in the New Zealand Territorial Force for several years. Aurora College is a state coeducational Year 7–13 secondary school located in Invercargill, New Zealand. It is New Zealand's southernmost stand-alone secondary school, and second southernmost secondary school after The Catlins Area School in Owaka. TikTok, known in China as Douyin (), is a short-form video hosting service owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. It hosts user-submitted videos, which can range in duration from 15 seconds to 10 minutes. TikTok is an international version of Douyin, which was released in the Chinese market in September 2016. It launched in 2017 for iOS and Android in most markets outside of mainland China; however, it became available worldwide only after merging with another Chinese social media service, Musical.ly, on 2 August 2018. TikTok and Douyin have almost the same user interface but no access to each other's content. Their servers are each based in the market where the respective app is available.
