2022 Indiana Secretary Of State Election
The 2022 Indiana Secretary of State election took place on November 8, 2022, to elect the next secretary of state of Indiana. Holli Sullivan, a Republican who was appointed to replace Connie Lawson as Secretary of State in 2021, ran for a full term in office but was defeated in the Republican primary by Diego Morales. The Democratic, Republican, and Libertarian parties chose their nominees for Secretary of State at a party convention on June 18, 2022. Despite Indiana's strong Republican lean, polls showed a competitive race. Diego Morales (politician)
Diego Morales (born February 15, 1979) is a Guatemalan-American politician from Indiana. A Republican, he is the Secretary of State of Indiana. Early life and career Morales is from Guatemala, and immigrated to the United States with his parents and sisters when he was in high school. He graduated from Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg, Indiana. and earned his bachelor's degree from Indiana University Southeast in 2004. He enlisted in the United States Army in 2007, but was only on active duty for three months and 18 days. He transferred to the Indiana National Guard, but did not complete the eight-year commitment. Morales worked for the office of the Secretary of State of Indiana, Todd Rokita. He was fired in 2009, which the office explained as due to his work being "incomplete", with "inefficient execution" and a "lack of focus." Richard Earl Mourdock (born October 8, 1951) is an American politician who served as treasurer of the state of Indiana from 2007 to 2014. Running with the support of the Tea Party movement, he defeated six-term incumbent U.S. Senator Richard Lugar in the May 2012 Republican primary election for U.S. Senate. Joseph Hadden Hogsett (born November 2, 1956) is an American attorney, prosecutor, and politician who is the 49th mayor of Indianapolis, Indiana. Prior to being elected, Hogsett served as the Secretary of State of Indiana from 1989 to 1994 and as the Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party from 2003 to 2004. Newton County is a county located near the northwestern corner of the U.S. state of Indiana. As of 2010, the population was 14,244. Indiana's 4th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Indiana. From 2003 to 2013 the district was based primarily in the central part of the state, and consisted of all of Boone, Clinton, Hendricks, Morgan, Lawrence, Montgomery, and Tippecanoe counties and parts of Fountain, Johnson, Marion, Monroe, and White counties.
