Uruguay (; ), officially the Oriental Republic of Uruguay ( es, República Oriental del Uruguay), is a country in South America. It shares borders with Argentina to its west and southwest and Brazil to its north and northeast; while bordering the Río de la Plata to the south and the Atlantic Ocean to the southeast. The 2022 Liga Profesional de Primera División season, also known as the Campeonato Uruguayo de Primera División 2022, was the 119th season of the Uruguayan Primera División, Uruguay's top-flight football league, and the 92nd in which it is professional. The season, which was named "Walter Devoto", began on 5 February and ended on 30 October 2022 due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be held in Qatar during November and December 2022. Nacional were the champions, winning their forty-ninth league title after placing first in the season's aggregate table and defeating Liverpool in the semi-final match. The 2022 Campeonato Uruguayo Femenino C season (''2022 Women's Uruguayan Championship C'') is the 1st season of the Women's Uruguayan Championship C, Uruguay's third division women's football league and organized by the Uruguayan Football Association. 2022 South American U-17 Women's Championship
The 2022 South American U-17 Women's Championship was the 7th edition of the South American U-17 Women's Championship ( es, CONMEBOL Sudamericano Femenino Sub-17), the biennial international youth football championship organised by CONMEBOL for the women's under-17 national teams of South America. It was held in Montevideo, Uruguay from 1 to 19 March 2022. Initially, the 7th edition of the tournament was scheduled to be held in 2020 but had to be cancelled for that year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The top three teams qualified for the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in India as the CONMEBOL representatives. Defending champions Brazil won their fourth title after finish first in the final stage and alongside the runners-up Colombia and third place Chile qualified for the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. The 2022 Supercopa Uruguaya was the fifth edition of the Supercopa Uruguaya, Uruguay's association football, football super cup. It was held on 30 January 2022 between the 2021 Uruguayan Primera División season, 2021 Primera División champions Peñarol and the 2021 Uruguayan Primera División season#Torneo Apertura, 2021 Torneo Apertura champions Club Plaza Colonia de Deportes, Plaza Colonia. Originally the match was scheduled to be played at Estadio Silvestre Octavio Landoni in Durazno, however, the Durazno Intendancy declined to host it due to an increase of COVID-19 cases in the Durazno Department. 2022 Uruguayan Law Of Urgent Consideration Referendum
A referendum on the Urgent Consideration Law was held in Uruguay to ask the electorate if 135 articles of Law 19,889 (known as the "Urgent Consideration Law", "Urgency Law" or simply "LUC") – approved by the General Assembly in 2020 and considered as the main legislative initiative of the coalition government of President Luis Lacalle Pou — should be repealed. It was the result of a campaign promoted by various social and political actors such as the national trade union center PIT-CNT and the opposition party Broad Front. On 8 July 2021, almost 800,000 adhesions were delivered to the Electoral Court, exceeding 25% of the total number of registered voters who are constitutionally required to file a referendum appeal against a law.
