2022 Bend, Oregon Shooting
On August 28, 2022, a gunman opened fire at a Safeway grocery store in Bend, Oregon, killing two men, one of whom was an employee, and wounding two other people before committing suicide. Shooting After leaving his Fox Hollow apartment building at about 7:00 pm, the gunman, 20-year-old Ethan Blair Miller, fired into his own vehicle, a 1997 Ford F-250, in the parking lot of the apartment building. The gunman, armed with an AR-15 style rifle and a shotgun, then fired into the parking lot of a Costco as he walked to the Forum shopping center. At about 7:04 pm, Miller reached the parking lot of the Forum shopping center, where he fired into a Big Lots store adjacent to Safeway. The Cedar Creek Fire is a large wildfire in the U.S. state of Oregon that began on August 1, 2022, with a series of lightning strikes in the Willamette National Forest approximately east of Oakridge. By September 8, the fire had reached over . By September 10, it was over 74,000 acres; 30,000 foot high pyrocumulonimbus clouds from the fire were producing their own lightning; Oakridge was evacuated. The 2022 World Athletics Championships was the eighteenth edition of the World Athletics Championships. It was held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, United States, from July 15–24, 2022, with the country hosting that competition for the first time. The competition was originally scheduled for August 6–15, 2021, but it was postponed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, World Athletics banned all Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials from participating at the championships. In addition, the stringent vaccination requirements for people entering the United States caused visa delays for participants and officials, with some ultimately being unable to enter the country. 2022 USA Outdoor Track And Field Championships
The 2022 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships were held in Eugene, Oregon organized by USA Track and Field. It was serving as the national championships in track and field for the United States. The results of the event determined qualification for the 2022 World Athletics Championships, also held in Eugene. Provided they had achieved the World standard or are in the World Athletics ranking quota, the top three athletes in each event gained a place on the World team. In the event that a leading athlete did not hold the standard, or an athlete withdrew, the next highest finishing athlete with the standard was selected instead.
