Limerick, Ontario
Limerick is a small township in Hastings County, Ontario, Canada, near Limerick Lake. It is located north of Belleville between Madoc and Bancroft and served by Ontario Highway 62 and Township Road 620. The Township is bordered by the Town of Bancroft, Township of Wollaston and the joined Townships of Tudor and Cashel. The township is heavily forested, as is the shoreline of the Limerick Lake, the main industry in the township being forestry and logging. The population of Limerick Township is approx. 300 full-year residents, and another 1000 seasonal residents. It was named in 1887 after the city of Limerick in Ireland. History The Municipality of Tweed is an amalgamated municipality comprising the former Village of Tweed and the former Hungerford Township and former Elzevir & Grimsthorpe Townships. The Municipality was incorporated on 1 January 1998 as a lower tier municipality within the County of Hastings two tier governing system. The post office was established in 1852. Elzevir Township (formed circa 1869, location of a major gold strike) and Grimsthorpe Township (formed 22 February 1867 during the local gold rush) had been administered as one entity since before 1968 until amalgamation into the Municipality of Tweed. Tudor And Cashel
Tudor and Cashel is a township in the Canadian province of Ontario, located in Hastings County. The township consists of two non-contiguous portions, separated by Limerick township and the northernmost portion of Tweed.The municipality is mostly rural. History Tudor Township was created circa 1865. Cashel Township was created circa 1869. Tudor and Cashel Townships were administered as one in 1897. Limerick Township and Wollaston Township petitioned unsuccessfully for separation from Tudor Township in 1868. Wollaston Township was eventually formed circa 1880. Madoc is a township in Hastings County in Eastern Ontario, Canada. The township was named after legendary Welsh prince Madoc ap Owain Gwynedd, credited by some with discovering North America in 1170. There exists an alternative explanation, for which no evidence exists, that the name comes from a small Welsh village, Llanmadoc on the Gower Peninsula of Wales, not far from the city of Swansea. Hastings Highlands is a township in the Canadian province of Ontario. Located in the northernmost portion of Hastings County, the township had a population of 4,078 in the 2016 Canadian census. The 2022 municipal elections in Ontario were held on October 24, 2022. Voters in the province of Ontario elected mayors, councillors, school board trustees and all other elected officials in all of the province's municipalities. Faraday, Ontario
Faraday is a township in the Canadian province of Ontario, located within Hastings County adjacent to the town of Bancroft. History The township of Faraday was first settled 1857, when iron ore deposits were discovered. Prior to the 1922 discovery of uranium, mica, feldspar, and other minerals were mined on a small scale in area. Inspired by finds of gold in nearby Eldorado (now Madoc) in 1886–7 and onwards, many people moved to the area hoping to find gold. The Barker Quarries operated South of Marble Lake sporadically from 1908 into the late 1930s providing marble for government buildings in Ottawa and Casa Loma and the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. Deseronto, Ontario
Deseronto is a town in the Canadian province of Ontario, in Hastings County, located at the mouth of the Napanee River on the shore of the Bay of Quinte, on the northern side of Lake Ontario. The town was named for Captain John Deseronto, a native Mohawk leader who was a captain in the British Military Forces during the American Revolutionary War. More extensive development began with sale of village tracts by Deseronto's grandson John Culbertson in 1837. The Mohawk of the nearby Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory originally controlled the townsite as well. This is the most easterly municipality of Hastings County. It was a center of industry related to timber and mineral resources until the 1930s.
