2022 Gent–Wevelgem
The 2022 Gent–Wevelgem in Flanders Fields was a road cycling one-day race that took place on 27 March 2022 in the provinces of West Flanders and Hainaut in west Belgium. It was the 84th edition of Gent–Wevelgem and the 10th event of the 2022 UCI World Tour. The race was long, and despite the race's name, it started from beneath the Menin Gate in Ypres for the third consecutive year. From the start, the race course headed east towards Kortrijk before heading back towards Ypres, after which it headed as far north as Veurne. There were no climbs in the first of the race, but from Veurne, the race course turned south and roughly followed the Belgium–France border until it reached a series of seven cobblestone sections and nine short hills to the south of Ypres. 2022 UCI World Tour
The 2022 UCI World Tour was a series of races that included thirty-one road bicycle racing, road cycling events throughout the 2022 in men's road cycling, 2022 cycling season. The tour started with the 2022 UAE Tour, UAE Tour on 20 February, and concluded with the 2022 Il Lombardia, Il Lombardia on 8 October. Events The 2022 calendar was announced in the autumn of 2021. Cancelled events Due to COVID-19 pandemic, COVID-19-related logistical concerns raised by teams regarding travel to Australia (including strict quarantine requirements), the Tour Down Under (18–23 January) and the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race (30 January) were cancelled. On 8 June 2022, the Benelux Tour (29 August – 4 September) was cancelled due to a pressurised calendar. On 17 June 2022, the Tour of Guangxi (13–18 October) was also cancelled due to travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Veurne (; french: Furnes, italic=no, ) is a city and municipality in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the town of Veurne proper and the settlements of , , , , , Houtem, , , Wulveringem, and . History Origins up to the 15th century Veurne, in Latin ''Furna'', is first found in 877 as a possession of the Saint Bertin Abbey in Saint-Omer. Around 890 AD, it was noted as a successful fortification against the Viking raids. It soon was placed at the head of the castellany of Veurne, a large territory counting 42 parishes and some 8 half-independent parishes, owing allegiance to the Count of Flanders. Søren Kragh Andersen (born 10 August 1994) is a Danish cyclist who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He is the younger brother of Asbjørn Kragh Andersen, who was also a professional cyclist, until his retirement in 2022. Career He joined in 2016 on an initial two-year contract. Classic Cycle Race
The classic cycle races are the most prestigious one-day professional road cycling races in the international calendar. Some of these events date back to the 19th century. They are normally held at roughly the same time each year. The five most revered races are often described as the cycling monuments. For the 2005 to 2007 seasons, some classics formed part of the UCI ProTour run by the Union Cycliste Internationale. This event series also included various stage races including the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, Vuelta a España, Paris–Nice, and the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré. The UCI ProTour replaced the UCI Road World Cup series (1989–2004) which contained only one-day races.
