2022 Fareham Borough Council Election
The 2022 Fareham Borough Council election took place on 5 May 2022 to elect members of Fareham Borough Council. This was on the same day as other local elections. 16 of the 31 seats were up for election. Background Since its first election in 1973, Fareham has been under Conservative control, apart from periods of no overall control from 1973 to 1976, 1986 and 1987, and 1994 to 1999. The Liberal Democrats briefly overtook the Conservatives to become the largest party from 1994 to 1999. In the 2021 election the Conservatives gained 1 seat with 56.2% of the vote, the Liberal Democrats made no gains or losses with 22.0%, independents made no gains or losses with 7.7%, and UKIP lost their seat on the council without contesting any seats. Fareham Borough Council
Fareham ( ) is a market town at the north-west tip of Portsmouth Harbour, between the cities of Portsmouth and Southampton in south east Hampshire, England. It gives its name to the Borough of Fareham. It was historically an important manufacturer of bricks, used to build the Royal Albert Hall, and grower of strawberries and other seasonal fruits. Current employers include Fareham Shopping Centre, small-scale manufacturers, and the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory. History Archaeological excavations around the old High Street area and the church of St Peter & Paul on high ground over the Wallington Estuary have yielded evidence of settlement on the site contemporary with the Roman occupation. 2022 United Kingdom Local Elections
Local elections in the United Kingdom took place on 5 May 2022. These included elections for all London borough councils, for all local authorities in Wales and Scotland. Most seats in England were last up for election in 2018 and in Scotland and Wales in 2017. The elections coincided with the 2022 Northern Ireland Assembly election. In 91 cases, most of them in Wales, council seats were uncontested, each having only one candidate. Three seats in Scotland remained unfilled as no one nominated to fill them. The 1999 Fareham Council election took place on 6 May 1999 to elect members of Fareham Borough Council in Hampshire, England. 2021 Fareham Borough Council Election
Elections to Fareham Borough Council took place on 6 May 2021, as part of the 2021 United Kingdom local elections. These elections were originally scheduled for 2020 but were suspended for a year due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Following the previous elections, in 2018 the council consisted of 24 Conservatives, 5 Liberal Democrats, 1 Independent member and 1 UKIP member. Since the Conservatives regained majority control of the council in 1999, the Liberal Democrats had formed the main opposition. UK Independence Party
The UK Independence Party (UKIP; ) is a Eurosceptic, right-wing populist political party in the United Kingdom. The party reached its greatest level of success in the mid-2010s, when it gained two members of Parliament and was the largest party representing the UK in the European Parliament. The 2018 Fareham Borough Council election took place on 3 May 2018 to elect members of Fareham Borough Council in England. This was on the same day as other local elections. Half of the seats were up for re-election, with each councillor elected for a term of 4 years. The last time these seats were contested was in 2014.
