2022 Dominican Republic Census
The 2022 Dominican Republic census is the tenth Dominican Republic national census, and was held from the 10 to 23 of November 2022, during the presidency of Luis Abinader. It was originally scheduled to conclude in 23 November, but, it was extended to the end of month due to work delays. The population of the Dominican Republic was counted as 10,760,025 – an increase of 1,314,747 (13.9%) over the 2010 census. First results from the 2022 census were released to the public on 10 August 2023, from the Oficina Nacional de Estadística website. Preparation As required by law, the Dominican Republic census has been conducted every 10 years since 1920. The 2010 Dominican Republic census was the previous census completed. A province is almost always an administrative division within a country or state. The term derives from the ancient Roman ''provincia'', which was the major territorial and administrative unit of the Roman Empire's territorial possessions outside Italy. Pedernales Province
Pedernales (; ) is the southernmost province of the Dominican Republic, including the offshore island of Isla Beata. It was split from Barahona in 1957. Of its 2,074.53 km2, 1374 km2 belong to the Jaragua National Park. A third of its population is of Haitian origin, the highest ratio within the country. The capital of the province, Pedernales, was originally called Juan López, who was a Spanish inhabitant who had settled in the area around the 19th century. The province was called Pedernales after the river located on the border with Haiti, in which flint is abundant. The indigenous people of the Dominican Republic, the Taíno, used them to make sharp tools, such as axes and arrowheads. Luis Rodolfo Abinader Corona (; born 12 July 1967) is a Dominican economist, businessman, and politician who is serving as the 54th president of the Dominican Republic since 2020. He served as the Modern Revolutionary Party candidate for President of the Dominican Republic in the 2016 and 2020 general elections. Early life Abinader was born in Santo Domingo on 12 July 1967. The 1920 Santo Domingo Census was conducted from 19 January to 24 December 1920, during the administration of the general Thomas Snowden, American governor of the Santo Domingo following the American occupation of the Dominican Republic. This was the first census done in the land of the former Dominican Republic since the Spanish colonial period, although the Catholic Church had done several parish censuses; the 1920 census collected information regarding on sex, age, fertility, race, religion, marital status, nationality, and housing. The Third National Census of Population of the Dominican Republic was raised on 6 August 1950, during the presidency of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo, after the Decree No.6091 of 20 October 1949. 1970 Dominican Republic Census
The Fifth National Census of Population of the Dominican Republic was taken in 9-10 January 1970, during the presidency of Joaquín Balaguer. This census collected information aspects of sex, occupation, age, fertility, religion, marital status, nationality, literacy, ability to vote and housing. Unlike all previous censuses, no information regarding race was collected. This census was made over two days instead of one.
