2022 Central American Games
The 2022 Central American Games, the XII edition of the Central American Games, were to be hosted in Santa Tecla, El Salvador. This would have been the second time that the games were hosted outside the capital of the country. The host city was announced on 1 December 2017. However, they were cancelled in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in El Salvador and the hosting rights were later given to Guatemala and Costa Rica. Santa Tecla, El Salvador
Santa Tecla () is a municipality in the La Libertad department of El Salvador. It is the capital of the department of La Libertad. The city was named after Saint Thecla who was a saint of the early Christian Church, and a reported follower of Paul of Tarsus in the 1st century AD. She is not mentioned in the New Testament, but the earliest record of her comes from the apocryphal ''Acts of Paul and Thecla'', probably composed in the early 2nd century. Santa Tecla is situated at the southern foot of the San Salvador Volcano, and very close to San Salvador (14.5 km, the capital city. The municipality of Antiguo Cuscatlán sits on its eastern border. Estadio Nacional Jorge "Mágico" González is a football stadium in San Salvador. It is named after Salvadoran star player Mágico González. The stadium has a capacity of 35,000 and was previously known as "Estadio Nacional Flor Blanca", referring to the name of the San Salvador neighborhood where it is located. The Guatemalan Olympic Committee ( es, Comité Olímpico Guatemalteco, abbreviated as COG) is a non-profit organization serving as the National Olympic Committee of Guatemala and a part of the International Olympic Committee and PASO.
