2022 Bharatpur Municipal Election
Municipal election for Bharatpur took place on 13 May 2022, with all 147 positions up for election across 29 wards. The electorate elected a mayor, a deputy mayor, 29 ward chairs and 116 ward members. An indirect election will also be held to elect five female members and an additional three female members from the Dalit and minority community to the municipal executive. Renu Dahal of CPN (Maoist Centre) was re-elected as mayor winning 48.3% of the votes and Nepali Congress gained control of the council. Background Bharatpur was established in 1978 as a municipality. The municipality was upgraded to a sub-metropolitan city in 2014 after incorporating neighboring village development committees into Bharatpur municipality. Renu Dahal
Renu Dahal ( ne, रेणु दाहाल) is a Nepalese politician and current Mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City. She joined the CPN (Maoist Centre) party in 1994 and became full timer member of the party in 1996. Dahal is a daughter of the incumbent Prime Minister and chairman of CPN (MC), Pushpa Kamal Dahal. She was the member (Proportional Representation) of First Constituent Assembly of Nepal. Early life Renu Dahal was born on July 4, 1976 in Bhimsen Nagar of Shivanagar VDC (Now Bharatpur Metropolis) in Chitwan District. She is the second daughter of Pushpa Kamal Dahal (née Prachanda) and Sita Dahal. Dahal has one younger sister, Ganga. Municipal election for Janakpur took place on 13 May 2022, with all 127 positions up for election across 25 wards. The electorate elected a mayor, a deputy mayor, 25 ward chairs and 100 ward members. An indirect election will also be held to elect five female members and an additional three female members from the Dalit and minority community to the municipal executive. Nepali Congress Janakpur committee president Manoj Kumar Sah who had resigned from the Nepali Congress for short period to file his candidacy defeated the incumbent Lal Kishor Sah from the People's Socialist Party to become mayor.
